Queen Prawn
When she turns 21, Paul will be 82 . My bf's dad is 65 and I can't imagine him having another one .

The Critic
great another beatle off-spring to shower us with crappy music. well, to be fair, the water's been turned off on that shower-head for a while. when's the last time any of the BeatleKids tried to sell us anything? I worry about relating to my daughter in any meaningful way when she grows up, and we had her when I was only 37! Imagine how strained their relationship will be if Paul lives into the kid's teenage years? GrampaDad....ugh...
CubKilla
when's the last time any of the BeatleKids tried to sell us anything? A year or two ago, Sean Lennon released the biggest piece of garbage mistakenly referred to as a record album I've ever heard. It's obvious that he gets none of his "artistic" side from his father but rather, his Beatles killing mother YokOhNo. Julian Lennon was actually pretty big in the 80's for a short time wasn't he? He's had some decent albums, but he's never been huge. When you have John Lennon to live up to, it's pretty much given that you'll be a failure musically. I guess the Yankees have just been an average franchise while we are at it? Even if you don't personally like them, you have to give credit where credit is due. Tell me you are saying such things PA just to get a rouse from all us posters. I don't think that there should much argument to the statement that McCartney/Lennon was the best song writing duo that there has been in my lifetime, and IMO ever. The evolution that the band itself went through from 1962 to 1970 alone is more than most bands will ever attain, and the contrasting styles that Lennon and McCartney produced together will IMO NEVER be matched. Theres a lot of grbage being made since the Beatles that people claim is "great songwriting" but please, when compared to a real songwriting duo, it all falls short.
Capn12
Well, when it comes to Bonds vs. Ruth, come and tell me when Bonds goes out, hits 714 HRs, AND wins 94 games, with 107 CG!!! and a 2.28 ERA. Ruth was one in a million on the baseball field, Bonds, while VERY impressive as a player, IMO doesn't compare.
sox4lifeinPA
I'd completely agree about Bonds v. Ruth. Where I have trouble is the fact that the beatles were the first to do what they do, which doesn't necessarily make them the BEST. A large portion of their music is quite simple and very pop in its implementation. However, they seemed to transform, like you said, into a very different band as they grew up and out of writing pop music. Let me say that I'm a fan of the beatles, but I quite possibly might be the "Boog_Alou95" of the beatles. good or bad, I just don't buy all the hype. I do love rocking out to "it was twenty years ago today..." or "well shake it..."
Capn12
I don't really think you can say that a "large portion" of their stuff was pop based. Of their 17 albums that were released in the US, 8 of them were pre-Rubber Soul, which is when most Beatles 'historians' would say their sound changed. Even then, there was alot on those first 8 albums, after "A Hard Day's Night" that could be considered creatively different.

Ok smart guy, what artist in the last 50 years has had a more universal appeal and influence on music than the Beatles? The only name I can see mentioned is Elvis, and I would disagree with that. Pastime
I don't want to interrupt your conversation, but I don't care for the Beatles circa 1963 - June 1966. The early stuff was not to my liking at all. However, I absolutely love the stuff from July 1966 - 1970. Yes, I know drugs played a part in their drastic change in lyrics and music, but their later stuff was awesome, IMO. The "Abbey Road" CD has been in my various cars for 10 years, and will always continue to be. Their later stuff was just mesmerizing. I didn't understand it until I was doped up, but now I do. The Critic
The Beatles were definitely one of the more influential and innovative acts in pop or rock music. They were the first to intentionally incorporate feedback into popular music, they had a lot of symphonic elements in their later work, and they stretched the limits of "pop music" further than anyone before them had. To suggest that they were not influential is incorrect, IMHO. Another appreciation I have for the Beatles now that I didn't have before is that the early stuff is GREAT to sing with your kids! Poppy...yes. Simple...yes. Catchy...yes.
