The lease expires in 2027. If JR  still owns the team some people I've talked too seem to think the lease will be extended for a few more years.

Article in todays Sun Times  seems to indicate the Bears might  stay at Soldier Field. They seem to think it would be much cheaper for the Bears to stay in Soldier Field than it would in Arlington Heights. If thats true I will  think the Bears would stay in Chicago.

What are you talking about? This is Chicago, in the state of Illinois the two most corrupt institutions on the planet, what do they care about giving away another $1B, they spend that on lunch.

Jerry isn't selling people, for tax reasons (recall he's a tax attorney), he needs to gift it to his kids. Send him pretzels in the meantime.

Who here would want to take a billion dollar profit if they had to pay $200 mil in taxes? That's crazy. It's only a $800 million net. 

Plus having your net worth tied up in the team keeps you from using it.

The stadium lease actually expires officially in 2029 or the White Sox can extend it thru the 2030 season. After that, the state of the team and potential new stadium site would be unknown. At that point Jerry will be 94 years old.

I’m assuming by 2027 or 2028, Jerry will likely pass the majority ownership to his son Michael. Another possibility is a new ownership group will purchase the club and pay for any tax hit penalty as a clause in such sale. Jerry will do everything in his power to minimize any tax penalties for his heirs. So having a new ownership group dish out an additional 200 million will likely be required. 

Long story short, the triumphant of insanity known as Jerry, Kenny and Rick will still run this dumpster fire until 2027. If a new majority owner comes on the scene by the 2027 or 2028 season,  it gives them 3 full years to plan out and build a brand new stadium. We can hope it pray it’s in the Chicagoland area. If not, a potential move to a new city like Nashville might be threatened into existence.

Circumstances can change of course but I can't see any reasonable way JR passes ownership to Michael while he is alive.

I read recently that some billionaire from Nashville wants to buy the Tampa Bay  Rays. I'm sure if he buys the team he won't keep the team in St. Pete.
