White Sox’ trade-deadline decisions will depend on ability to compete in playoffs, not just for AL Central crown

I actually don't really want them to sell. Hahn is terrible at it. We are extremely likely to get a Q.O. for Giolito. And it's more fun for me that jerry pays players salaries than players are traded for s%*# returns to save money.

I have no evidence that Jerry will let them offer the QO to Giolito. He didn't for Rodon. I think they can find someone better than the 70th pick in the draft at the deadline for Giolito.

Hahn can't.

I think it's very possible the ALC winner has 79 wins.

Possible, but if the Twins can keep it close to .500 until the last couple weeks of the season, they should get to 81-81. They play the Reds, Angels, Rockies, and A’s to finish up.

Giolito, Kelly, and hopefully Graveman all are moved for solid returns. Any other 1 year guys if it makes sense (Grandal, Middleton, Lopez, etc.)

I would be perfectly fine waiting until the offseason to unload the other valuables.

Really hoping for 2-5 the next 7 to be 33-48 at the 81 game mark. Need the Twins to be at least 40-41 then too. That should solidify the Sox being sellers. Sox aren’t going to be 7 games better than the Twins after that, even if they go 4-3 in the remaining head to head games. And going 5-2 or better is a pipe dream.

But what does selling really accomplish?  It'd be one thing if we had a recent history of developing guys but, in reality, it's quite the opposite!  This franchise is where expectations and raw talent go to die.  We aren't getting top prospects for any of our trade bait.  Do you have confidence we take a #95 rated prospect and actually build him up to get to the majors and succeed?  I sure as hell don't.

Might as well just play it out.  We're screwed no matter what.

I mean, ok.

You have said yourself that you think it may really be the end of hahn. I'd rather another group have the budget of the 70th overall pick than Hahn's talent evaluation this year.

Yes, probably a bad team as long as Reinsdorf owns the team and Hahn and Co are making decisions. However, I know I hate the majority of the major league team right now. If they can remove some of these guys and bring in hungry prospects, I’ll take my chances a couple hit.

Agreed those three players should bring a good return. However Hahn is making the trades.

I am pretty sure Hahn will screw up each of those trades based on his past track record and get fleeced like he always does.

I actually disagree with this. If you get in the playoffs, you can win the title. Any baseball team can go on a heater and win a title. Getting in is still the hard part.

I really want to agree with you, and in a couple divisions it's kind of true, but in the AL Central? No. The easiest part is beating this collection of shallow, little talent, teams. The hard part is beating teams from much better divisions.

You're saying the hard part is beating the Guardians, Tigers, and Twins and the easy part is getting hot and beating the Rays, Orioles, Rangers, Astros, Angels?!

The hardest part is accepting this team sucks. The easy part is finding less aggravating things to do like chat with telemarketers about extending my car warranty or Medicare supplements.

I just think they'll get something much better at the deadline than the 70th pick next year.

Your best point is the hardest part is accepting this team sucks. I've accepted it, but it's sad and sucks!

As die-hard fans, we tend to let our Sox fandom fantasize on the possible results which are totally unrealistic.

On the flip side, let's look how the Sportsbooks view the Sox, as they are not biased and call it as it is.

The White Sox to win the 2023 World Series is currently at +15,000. That is all anyone needs to know to keep in perspective the chances the Sox have going far in the playoffs.

If anyone here still thinks they have a great shot, then my advice is drop some money right now on the Sox winning it all. A quick $1000 bet would net you $150,000 dollars, or $500 for $75,000. ?

Change in tune from Hahn's late May press conference.

Sounds like there is resignation that this season is over after losing 4 of 6 out west, not to mentioned continued attrition with the roster.

Vinnie Duber providing the 411.

Two Hahn quotes:

How is this no talent @$$ clown still employed?

Sell anything and everything with less than two years of control.  It truly sucks that Hahn is the guy who will have to do the trading, but it’s better than praying we somehow make the playoffs and magically get hot come October.  This team is simply too flawed offensively and lacks any real pitching depth for that to happen IMO.  And that really sucks because this s%*# division is trying to gift us a playoff spot.

Crazy that we are a few months from the end of Giolito’s rookie contract.

Basically all the guys Hahn was praised for in those trades so long ago…it’s about to be 6 years, almost a billion dollars spent…and one first round exit.

Things can change but that’s what it looks like.  Incredible whiff on the whole rebuild idea.

After you trade away half your pitching staff and at least one starting position player who in their right mind thinks this team wins anything?

I don’t know. I can’t write off seasons that haven’t been played yet and offseason that haven’t happened yet.
