Yeah I’m not following that comparison and the either/or logic for this at all. There’s nuance here.

Charitable work is generally a public or community-centric thing by nature, so it’s  kind of hard for it to be private.

Also, it’s nothing new that good things are celebrated and people like to hear about them.

Edit: For the record I don’t give a rats rear end what happens in Giolito’s life or how many chicks Anderson knocks up or any of that nonsense.  But consistency is a thing and if they are going to accept the praise then they can’t avoid the criticism.  Also I can’t stand when holier than thou people say “it’s none of our business!!!” In one breath and in another talk about what great guys we have because of their work in the charitable communities.  It’s nauseating.

I don't generally disagree but I hate the holier-than-thou inconsistency.  Either keep everything private or don't run down others when they post private bad news.  (Not accusing you of doing so.)

Its unfortunate that his marriage is ending and it sounds like it was at least a joint decision without any drama.

I think its perfectly acceptable to discuss how this might affect his performance and the team, this is a White Sox forum and what happens in his personal life can and might have an affect on the teams performance.

These guys are human beings.  Life happens, like having to get a divorce because thigs don't work out.  Whether it's TA or GIO, it's really none of my business as long as they act like good human beings and try to right the wrongs and learn from their mistakes.

I think for me it becomes my business when a guy  is a dead beat of a human being and he plays for my favorite team.  I don't want to root for guys like that and don't want my kids looking up to guys like that. 

I think this goes on with every team but it's only highlighted even more with the White Sox because they have gone from a fun, contending, loveable team to a absolute dumpster fire on the field.  I think we are all frustrated with this team and organization because we do care.  That's why it's easy to highlight things that go on with this team outside of baseball.

Just my 2 cents

Mods, can we please stop this post. The comments are starting to get offensive and personal, deviating from baseball type arguments...which is what this forum is about.

I've always liked Gio and if he is going through a divorce I feel bad for him. However it's none of our business. It's part of life outside of sports or even our work life. We can complain about several Sox players on this team with questionable ethics and attitudes, but Gio has always been one of the classy guys on this team. I only wish him the best in his personal and professional life.

Speaking of charity work, I wish the Sox FO did a better job informing the fans which Sox players do charity and community work. When Liam was a finalist for the Roberto Clemente award last year, they highlighted all his charities and work with kids. For me personally, it was very touching to watch and discover his efforts. I have always enjoyed knowing when any of my Chicago Sports teams' players do these type of volunteer and charity work. I think MLB and the White Sox should be promoting these ventures way more than they do. If the Sox are doing it, which I'm sure they are, then they are doing a horrible job marketing it. It shouldn't be some big secret.

I know I could go google the Sox players and see what charities they do, but it shouldn't have to take that. I could be wrong, but I bet I'm not the only Sox fan here who enjoys hearing about their work with unfortunate or sick kids. I love seeing videos whether it's the Sox, Bulls, Bears or Hawks players.

With all the negativity we debate about these Sox players, it would be nice to know of when they do good things outside the game. ESPN used to televise that "Make a Wish Foundation" stories showing famous athletes making unfortunate kids' dreams and wishes become a special day in the their life. I don't know if ESPN still does that.

I personally haven't perceived a racial double standard with how TA and Giolito's marital issues have and are being discussed. What is different is that there is a child involved in TAs case which for quite a few reasons makes TAs infidelity worse. I don't think that's really debatable.

At the end of the day I think you can say that if TA was hitting 300/330/500 nobody would give half a f*** about his off field life. When he's been arguably the worst regular in baseball and is sub tweeting s%*# about being disrespecting and how unfair everything is OF COURSE fans are going to b**** and moan. Come on, that's part of being a pro ball player. Perform on the field and the fans are gonna give you grace. Suck ass and the fans are gonna boo and critique. TA is lucky he plays in Chicago and not NYC or LA.

Too much time apart can be hard to overcome in a marriage. Not having kids yet is a good thing. Gio and his wife both seem like 

good people and I wish both of them well.

Yep I had to get a divorce and got wiped out but it was worth it if you ever met who caused it. Plus we had triplets!!!

People should not be weighing in with their opinions on an extremely personal issue in a person’s life. It’s not any of our business and all we should say in to hope things work out for the couple. It seems some here have nothing on their minds but to constantly complain and insult. It’s very sad in my opinion. And I hope that the Sox sign Giolito and Cease to new contracts
