DBAHO
Any1 think they're tryin to save face for da season already?
The Critic
It's a decent pickup, but nothing to get all that excited about. One-year acquisitions are all we can expect due to the labor war set for September 2004. That makes it difficult for me to go get TOO worked up about anything the Hawks do this year. Chisoxfn
Seems like a good pickup. The guy is still young, but it is only a one year deal. He has a lot of talent and is going to help the Blackhawks offense and defense.

Usually the hawks go for the Tony McKegney/Rick Vaive variety of FA - OLD, USED UP and READY FOR THE SCRAP HEAP! I agree, though, that he should take KarpotSUCK's place and NOT a kid's, but we all know better than to expect THAT, don't we?

With Smithov gone lets hope the teams love affair with Karp-Flop-Sev will end too. Hopefully signing Berard will be the beginning of the end or this slug. southsider2k5
Umm isn't this guy who only has one eye, after taking a puck in the head?

He was a free agent cos he was originally in Boston, but he won arbitration of $2.5 mill, but Boston then didn't want to offa him a contract cos obviously the price was too high. The Hawks got him cos they offered him less than 80% of the arbitration deal othawise Boston would hav had da right to match. Pulford said da Hawks were lucky to get him, a couple of teams wanted him badly too. I don't mind da signing, I just hope it doesn't take ice time away from a young D-Man like McCarthy or Kukkonen, when he should be taking da spot of Quint or Krapov. MurcieOne
Where has Berard been playing? Drafted by Ottowa...he was traded to the Islanders, and was ROY (Calder) got clipped in the eye on the backswing of a marian hossa slapshot. Spent an entire season off, was recently with the bruins. I wanna say he's almost blind in his bad eye. he's had like 80 pts in 200 games or something....much better than anything we currently have. Great signing, about time we have a solid AMERICAN on our blue line, he's an awsome offensive Defenseman, and not a liabilty on defense. signed for like 2 million dollars and he will most likely play on Monday. Yeah he's kinda like Phil housley but much bigger, and he can actually play D as well a bit. But they'll put Klemm with him, who's a stay at home defenseman. I think this signals the end of the Deron Quint era in Chicago.
