Cali
All along, Ozzie Guillen has said he believes he has a legitimate chance to be named manager of the White Sox. He just might be right. Sources said Guillen flew back to Chicago on Friday to meet with team Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. It was Guillen's second interview with the Sox in three days. He met with general manager Ken Williams on Wednesday for more than four hours. Guillen, a Reinsdorf favorite after 13 seasons on the South Side, said Wednesday the Sox's job is the only one that interests him. Until Friday, Cito Gaston had been the only managerial candidate whom the Sox had called back for a second interview. Gaston still is considered the favorite, but now he appears to have serious competition. The Sox are expected to name a manager by Wednesday. Williams will be out of town until Monday, and the team's organizational meetings begin Thursday in Las Vegas. There may be hope just yet for Oz. Also how cool is it that the organizational meetings are in Vegas?
Pastime
Jerry vs. Kenny in any argument. How can we sum that up. Hmmmm. Oh yeah, it's a movie called "Dumb and Dumber."
DBAHO
Yeh but I read in another recent Tribune article that all indications are the White Sox are expected to hire Cito Gaston on Tuesday. But I still hope Ozzie gets da job.
Al Lopez Ghost (old)
The reason Guillen came in on Friday is that KW mistakenly had Ozzie Smith come in for the first interview.
DBAHO
The reason Guillen came in on Friday is that KW mistakenly had Ozzie Smith come in for the first interview. I thought he dissapeared off the face of the earth?

CubKilla
Will anybody? Not as long as JR owns the team and said person values their job within the White Sox Organization.
Chisoxfn
I think its getting really interesting that maybe it isn't the obvious candidate.
Pastime
Notice that Ozzie met with Reinsdrip the second time around. I truly think that Ozzie is Reinsdrip's personal choice. I think Gaston is Kenny Williams' personal choice. I don't see what the problem is. If JR insists that it's Ozzie who gets hired, all he has to do is pick up the puppet strings in Kenny's back and make him do whatever he wants. Plus, JR should just say, "I want Ozzie." That should end it right there. It might piss Kenny off, but what is he going to do, resign in anger? Hell, sign Ozzie just for that!! Pastime
Tony Pena had a winning team with a limited payroll, and Ozzie is a lot like Tony Pena, IMO. However, we shouldn't HAVE such a limited payroll. If no one came to the park in August and September, I could understand keeping the payroll at its pathetic level. But the fans DID come out, and they spent their money. So he rewards them for that by keeping the payroll the same? And you have a LOT of wishy-washy fans out there in Chicago who like to root for whatever Chicago team is doing better. Now they are flocking to the Cubs like cockroaches to a rotting apple core. Once again, Reinsdrip won't spend until the fans come out. And the fans won't come out until he spends. He spent, and the fans came. And now he's back to the same bulls***? Did the asshole not learn anything? Unbelievable. I know he has made millions in business, but it must be by making business dealings with millionaire chimps, because Reinsdrip knows exactly jack s*** about the business of running a baseball team. I know Jerry Reinsdrip is cheap. We all do. However, I never knew that he was also extremely STUPID. Chairman Cheapass, :fyou
