Jim Fainter
This guy had a great year for the Scrubs. I was surprised they let him go.
The Critic
Too much $$$. He wasn't going to take a paycut, and they weren't gonna pay him 9 mil. They'll try Hee Flops Choi again and pick up a veteran backup as insurance. Maybe Tracy Morgan ( aka Randall Simon ), but he has the stink of a Flash In The Pan to me. Who cares about him or them? I'm just gonna enjoy watching Hee Flops swing helplessly at breaking balls on his way to another robust .220 season!
Chisoxfn
Does this mean we could claim him for the minimum? He's getting paid an absolute fortune or are the Cubs soley seeing if someone puts a claim on him and if he doesn't then they aren't going to outright release him. I think eventually the SOx will try that with Konerko and Koch.

DBAHO
Maybe we should put Konerko on waivers like Boston did with Manny, cos I'm reckon sum team mite just take him. I wouldn't mind gettin nothin for him.
Pastime
If you took GIDPaul Konerko and stuck him in a garbage bag, the Waste Management people wouldn't even take him. As for Hee Chop Suey, he's just another Cubs prospect WAY overrated and overhyped. :fthecubs
Pastime
In all seriousness - if Konerko hits .285, with 33 HR and 110 RBI next year, would he THEN be worth the $8 million a year? If we can't dump him, then we are really going to need him to produce like HELL next year.

The Sox aren't going to just put Paulie and Koch out there for the taking, unless something really weird happens. If someone wants either player, than a trade can be worked out. Jim Fainter
Beware, Sox fans!!!! There is a Rex Hudler impersonator out there. Rex, who has been one of the most kowledgeable and objective posters, just said that Paul Konerko will hit .285, 33 homers, and 110 Rbi's next year? Gotta be an impersonator, because it is waaaay atoo early for April Fools Day pranks. Of course, last summer Rex did say that the Robbie Alomar trade was good. He must be a double agent. I agree with Rex. Those numbers are attainable for PK as long as he doesn't start off '04 like he started off '03. Alot of people here seem to forget that PK was an AllStar in '02 and, in the minds of some, the '02 AllStar MVP if Bud would have made the players finish the game. DonkeyKongerko
the '02 AllStar MVP Probably the last good game Paul has had in the past season and a half.

Just interested in what makes you think he will. Yes he was an All-star in 2002, but it was for a half a season, and we all know how he has been for the last season and a half. I just dont see anything in his stats that tell me he can, or will hit 33,.285,and 110 RBI's. Hate to break it to all those that follow Bill James blindly, but there is more to baseball than just stats. The players are human. For those of you who do not agree, here are some of the stats that you say do not exist, that indicate he is capable of those kinds of numbers with a big year..... Year Avg. HR RBI 1999 .294 24 81 2000 .298 21 97 2001 .282 32 99 2002 .304 27 104 In July, August and September of 2003, Paulie hit ..279 with 15 HR and 48 RBI. He may not hit the .285 33 110 numbers, but .275-.285 is realistic as is 25-30 HR and 90-100 RBI. That would not even be a huge year for him. I have to agree, his past numbers prove that he is a talented hitter. I actually think that this year was a fluke, and in 2004 Konerko will be a .300 hitter again. However I still think it would be wise to move him in the off-season for some pitching, a shortstop, or some young talented prospects. Jim, thanks for the backhanded compliment. LOL I know it may be tough to fathom, but I do come up with a thought or two on occasion that you might not agree with. I do think Paulie is more than capable of putting up numbers at least close to that level. Will he? Not sure But I don't think it is too far-fetched to consider it possible. And YES, I do still think the Alomar trade was a good one. The Sox traded a future setup guy for someone that gave them stability and a veteran presence. I am not the biggest Robby fan, but I do respect the little things he can bringo a club. Obvously, he wasn't happy in NY, but I believe he had a positive effect on Jose and others.
