BamaDoc
1) We shouldn't have been in this position. 2) Due to how weak our farm system was, (caveat for it is only one ranking system, 2023 picks not included) the prospects we acquired according to MLB.com now make up our #2,4,5,7,14,27 and a low 30s prospects. 3) It was a solid haul of prospects for what we gave up, our relative lack of leverage, and saved a fair bit of payroll. 4) Using some historical data, we should expect several of these players to get to the major leagues. One or two may be reasonably solid players. On one of the deadline broadcasts it was mentioned that over something like the last 15 years 574 prospects were traded. 3% became major impact (not sure what qualifies) and a bit over 10% became solid regulars (again don't know their criteria). It dampens my enthusiasm but overall, we received some players closer to the majors and higher rated than what most other teams received so maybe somewhat better odds. 2
Bad Hombre
And if I know my White Sox, none of these prospects will amount to anything ?
bmags
My favorite trade was Burgers, but we acquired a lot of pitchers and boy do those not hold up well on "top" lists. This org needed em though, we essentially got zero worth a s%*# from 2015-2020.

Or one of them will be traded for a washed up veteran and the prospect will become a future MVP-caliber player with another team, cough Tatis cough Semien, also probably cough Burger. CWSpalehoseCWS
Does anyone get the impression that the FO made it a focus to bring in more pitching this go-around than when the rebuild first began? It feels like there’s more SP options than last time. Maybe that’s because the farm already had some guys in Schultz, Mena, Cannon, Burke, and Thompson? They brought in Dunning, Giolito, Kopech, Cease and Lopez last time and had Fulmer who was still who still highly regarded. Way more pure talent in that group than what they brought in and have in the system right now. 1

Teams are also more willing to trade pitching prospects and that's probably why we got higher rated pitching for less "valuable" trade pieces.

Looking at Top Ten pitching prospects from 1998-2001 you had the biggest impact from two lowest rated/most unheralded guys in Buehrle and Fogg. Kip Wells or Garland #3. Rauch the biggest disappointment...or Ginter/Barcelo. Padres recently had a similar pile of pitching talent (starting with Gore and Patino) when their system was ranked first and traded most of it away for Musgrove Darvish Clevinger Hader etc.
