It was literally self defeating and is likely one of the causes for the frustration that led to bitterness and the circular firing squad that subsequently formed. The Sox sent the Yankees to last place where they belong. I hope the Sox go into Wrigley and take both games to ruin the Cubs chances. The Sox lost both home games, but Lynn is thankfully gone (7 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings), and Kopech who has been hands down their worst starter this season also won’t face them.
