I get that to some extent, but a bullpen functions best when pitchers know their roles. I'd honestly rather he pick a closer randomly then to just constantly be shifting.

Not trying to give Pedro more credit that he deserves, but my assumption is those roles will somewhat sort of themselves out based on performance. Because there are very few "standout" arms on paper in that bullpen, when he talks about using his "best leverage guys," I think he's going to have to find out who those guys are based on performance.

But I've always held the stance that even if you have one of the best closers in the game, if you're up 3-2 in the 8th inning and the Dodgers are sending up their 2-3-4 hitters, I'd much rather have my best pitcher in the bullpen on the mound for the 8th. If you bring in a lesser pitcher in the 8th and he blows the lead, there is no game to save in the 9th.

This is what I am hoping for.  Especially without literally no closing experience in the pen, hopefully a guy like Wilson, Kopech, or even Leasure steps forward to take it on.

I get all this as well. Hopefully it does sort itself out. Hopefully it's not just Pedro not wanting to make a decision. Personally I have trouble trusting a guy who pitched Hanser Alberto on Opening Day last year.

Agreed. As far as we know, none of these guys are able to close, but maybe one of them can. If we just assign it to, say, Kopech right out of the gate and he blows it over and over, we’d never find out if one of the other guys can do it. We’re not competing, so might as well try some trial and error.

We do have to hope that Grifol is thinking what we’re thinking, and that he’s not just gonna throw anyone out there all season even if someone steps up and proves he can close.

And we also don't have to crush them by publicly putting it all on one person just in case they do fail.  It makes it easier to pivot without burying one dude, and it also reduces the need to have one guy potentially fail a bunch of times before making a move since he has the "title" of closer.
