Exactly TSox….Dallas Sox Fan here…Bochy is humble and commands respect wherever he goes…Rangers want to play hard for him and do…he keeps the roster fully engaged with fair and balanced gameday lineups…when Rangers recently played in SanFran the fans and xGiants loved the man…Old School yes but he motivates and leads from today’s dugout…difference between winners here and losers on the SouthSide…

It's been a few years since I was in Dallas for a Rangers game but the crowd was great. I'm starting to follow them a bit more.

Yes…Rangers playing before more sellouts this year in new beautiful Globe Life Park as ownership has seriously  committed to winning with huge signings of Seager/Scherzer and Bochy , etal, plus existing talented & newly motivated roster even as strong ROY candidate Josh Jung unfortunately out with fractured thumb fielding line drive in glove hand…

Based on run differential (Sox -107, Detroit -102) and expected record (50-72), AJ Hinch could be considered seven wins better than Pedro Grifol through today.

https://www.mlb.com/standings/2023-08-18

  1. Detroit 55-67
  2. White Sox 48-74

Doesn't exactly correlate, but could see the Sox with a similar 55-67 record if Hinch was in charge. Then again, could see the Sox with a 70-52 record with Andrew Freidman or Erik Neander in charge over the past several years.

The whole leadership thing is overblown to me. Robert was honest. He doesn’t hav that type of personality. It’s nice to have a couple of players who have that and can step up, but if you don’t have them, that is what a manager is for. If the guy in that position cannot lead, you have to find someone who can. Pedro obviously isn’t that guy.

How in God's name do you sell any season tickets if Pedro Grifol is back?

Who would want to watch this same diminishing product three years in a row...with almost no logical/reasonable/realistic hope for improvement?

Good points here.  If Pedro stays, the season over/under might be around 50.

I don’t know how you retain this guy. He’s awful. And it’s not likely he’s JRs guy. It’s gotta be a one and done, right!?

I want Pedro to stay until both he and Hahn go out as a package. Hahn has zero qualifications to hire another manager, and I don't care if Jerry was 100% to blame with La Russa.

Under no circumstances should Hahn get another rebuild, or another few years to see if yet another manager "makes things right". A qualified GM needs to hire a qualified Manager for the first time in decades on the South Side.

Al Lopez

Tony LaRussa

125+ years of Sox baseball. Two HoF managers. And most folks here believe Tony wasn't worthy of being in the hall. So maybe one.

So why should we expect anyone better than what we've had throughout our history?

Tony was better than Bevington, I'll give you that.

Tony's HOF is based on Jerry placing him in Oakland/Saint Louis, not his mediocre record here.

The White Sox had 42 managers and 11 are in the Hall of Fame

Only two were inducted as managers. The rest earned their way as players.

I would be concerned that JR will decide that he needs another year because the White Sox don't want to pay 2 managers. There is also the question as to who picked him( assume Hahn but this is the White Sox) and he maybe should also go

Indeed.  If Hahn stays, Pedro stays.

Padro has  only effed things up for a year; Hahn's been doing it for a decade.

How can anyone watch the effort by these players and feel like Grifol can return?

If Hahn is back, then Pedro must be back. Hahn can't be given a fourth / fifth chance at this.

  • Hahn Robin says no to Hahn's 2016 extension. Hahn hires Ricky Renteria the next day with zero job search.
  • Hahn Ricky given an extension after 2019. Hahn fires Ricky 63 games later after the Sox' best Hahn record.
  • Jerry Hahn firing Ricky led to the Tony La Russa debacle, arguable a far worse manager. FY also to Jerry.
  • Hahn Hahn signed his guy, Pedro Grifol, after Joe Espada interviewed and then after said he had zero interest working for Jerry and Hahn.

Hahn gawn.

You left out Hahn watching a 63 win season and then immediately extending Ventura afterwards. I believe they finished in 4th place the next 3 seasons.

That was just to shield the front office from criticism (especially after Dunn and then Ozzie/Buehrle left) since nobody really wanted to blame Ventura for "taking the hit for JR" when he was a favorite or co-favorite of many Sox fans in the 80's and 90's.

Ventura never wanted to be the manager in the first place.

Everyone knows he was just there to deflect PR hits on ownership and the front office...taking one for the team, being a loyal foot soldier, etc.

After the 2012 collapse down the stretch...Ventura never recaptured the team again as a clubhouse leader.
