Sticky Stuff
Is this because of culture or analytics? Edited August 18, 2023 by DH in the NL
South Side Fireworks Man
Why couldn't I have been born a Dodgers fan? 1
JoeC
Probably some combination of both. Gotta have the right combination of analytics and scouting to identify holes in their games that are contributing to a performance deficiency, and those holes have to be fixable. In other words, you have to have analytics and scouting to filter out the chicken s%*# from the rest of the chicken. Then you have to have the culture that allows (or forces) the players to buy in to the message and makes them open to fixing the hole in their game. You can't teach players to give a s%*#, but you can make them want to give a s%*# by having a good culture.

The losing culture of the White Sox has developed for over a decade starting in 2007, it hasn't changed much. Players can feel it, sense it, now add in no rules and no real leadership and it snowballs. Losing begets losing and winning begets winning.

FT35
Anyone ever play in a scramble golf outing where you’re the best player on the foursome team and notice how it’s a guaranteed lock you’ll play one of the worst rounds of your life? Then when you’re the worst player on the foursome, you’re due to play way above your abilities? Probably has something to do with playing to the level of competition. It’s why winning culture is so important.

He's probably still a Dodgers fan. The White Sox are just a money making investment to him. 1

I would love it if the White Sox were a money making organization to him. He is clearly willing to make less money if the team is run a certain way. It’s why winning culture is so important. That explains Heyward? If you had Trayce Thompson...it would be 3 homers and 8 RBIs in one single game. More than half a season's worth of production. Pollock makes sense because cheese had the most favorable platoon at bats versus being forced into everyday playing time out of position on a team where he was never comfortable in the clubhouse. Kimbrel has done better with the Phillies fwiw. Edited August 18, 2023 by caulfield12
