If he is going to start taking actions that repeatedly lead to only white men being considered for key positions, actions that he himself worked to limit 25 years ago in baseball because of how race factored into it, then yes race is a factor. Not only should we not tolerate it, but we should call it out publicly.

Kenny Williams, Jerry Manuel, Ozzie Guillen, Rick Renteria, Pedro Grifol, all say "Hi."

He's met his quota so he gets an exemption from the rules and can hire all the mediocre white people he wants. That's how it works.

Also, building on this, Chuck emphatically declared that even he could build a major league roster based on TWTW because of his time spent in clubhouses as a reporter.

Chuck is fun to listen to, but until this season he carried enough water to fill the Grand Canyon.

I enjoyed that podcast but it turned into a giant meatball fest by the end.

yeah don’t get me wrong, Hahn stunk and deserved to be fired. But when you try to resign and aren’t allowed, it’s pretty shitty way to do business. Hahn can suck and JR treated him poorly. It’s not right to hold someone hostage when they want to take accountability and resign.

Hahn was GM for 11 years. He made his bed.  Zero sympathy from me.

I kind of wish there was video of the anti porn seminar so I could see the faces when he tries to sell a bunch of 20 year old elite athletes on abstinence ?

Clevinger, Bauer and Wander Franco might've benefited from something like this

See, I don't buy that at all.  Feels too much like Hahn trying to exonerate himself from his role in the dysfunction. Even if it's true, Hahn could have still resigned and found work elsewhere. His contract with the White Sox doesn't preclude him from working in a different industry. He wasn't literally a hostage.

Preston Mattingly seems like a breath of fresh air.

Don Mattingly’s son, correct? So he was born into it and this would be a form of nepotism. He also appears to be white and is likely a Christian. Soxtalk will take a hard pass on this guy, if this thread is any indication haha.

He's actually had a few different jobs, the teams he worked for were decent to strong. Dave Dombrowski has good things to say about him.

He likely had extra chances initially as a player because of his dad, and perhaps an initial foot in the front office door, but he looks to have performed well with the Padres and Phillies, gained growing responsibilities in his career.

I'll trust a Dave Dombrowski hire over a Rick Hahn hire. I'd like to learn more and hope he gets a legitimate interview if interested. He won't if the Sox stick to their unnecessarily rushed timeline, since the Phillies are competing for a World Series.

Quote

“Preston has a tremendous background for this position,” Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said in a statement announcing Mattingly's hire. “He has the ability to combine and use the necessary analytical skills blended with his baseball knowledge and he possesses leadership capabilities that are apparent very quickly."

That's a weird way of defending the seriously inappropriate behavior of Dayton Moore. What's the angle you're going for here? What are you implying?

Maybe I’m in the bargaining phase, but I think I could live with Getz if the Sox brought a legit President of Baseball Ops in like Click.  But Getz as the primary decision maker is sickening and I want nothing to do with Moore.

If one of these roles was filled externally, and there was a quality process for both that did not seek to circumvent league rules, I could potentially be persuaded to give them more of a chance as well.

I want a full house cleaning. There's no evidence Getz has any particular skill at what he does. The Sox finished dead last in overall org minor league performance by run differential. The coaches, scouts, and everybody else responsible need to be broomed.

I've been a bit checked out last day or so.  Has there been any clear indication whether TLR is actually legitimately involved in decision making here, or is this is as simple as JR answered a phone from his old buddy TLR and some writers running with it?  Seems like the reporting I have seen on it is all over the place.
