In all seriousness, I like your proposal.

Thanks. The Sox would basically be replacing Liam's contract with Jansen's while *buying* a top prospect like Rafaela (if we're comparing it to the MLB.com deal). Maybe the Red Sox have to throw in a little bit of money for the Sox to give up Santos back, I don't know, but there is some wiggle room there.

Jim Bowden hypothetical trade!

Dylan Cease to BOS for Marcelo Mayer, Wikelman Gonzalez, Jarren Duran

?

Lol so Jim Bowden, the guy who just a month ago proposed Cease to Reds for Jonathan India and Ty Floyd (Reds #12 prospect and no where near the top 100) is now saying Cease is worth Mayer (Red Sox #1, #11 overall) + Winkleman (BOS #9) and Duran (Better than India, 2 more years of control).

Ok, Jim. ?

I thought it was solid as well. I think your proposals are always reasonable. But please just once, for old times sake, can you put on the nicknaming hat and give one of our players a new nickname? I'm serious.

"Jim Bowden is a former baseball executive that I am so glad that he is not the GM of my favorite team."

Thanks for sharing.  Sounds like we could possibly see a trade soon, if this Yankees meeting yesterday meant anything.

Orioles’ fans won’t be happy…

The Yankees are going to end up pulling the trigger eventually if Elias continues to hoard all three of his position prospects behind Holliday.

Even then, none of those guys are better than Jones or Dominguez…and it seems highly unlikely Elias will offer up 2/3 or that Getz would accept just one and a bunch of Tier B’s aggregated together.

In the end, Snell’s numbers outside the two Cy years, his high pitch counts being quite similar to Cease and almost never pitching beyond the 6th not to mention those walks and unsustainably low numbers with RISP against him.  Thankfully NYY seem to have permanently pushed Montgomery away by benching him from the 2022 playoff rotation.

I thought it was interesting that the Sox “believe” they can get better prospects than the Orioles.  If Jones and Hampton are on the table, then they must have some inclination that the Orioles are willing to offer a strong package.

My biggest takeaway was this quote, emphasis added:

"Can the Yankees acquire Cease without giving up one of their two highest-ranked prospects, center fielders Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez? Dominguez won’t be moved and the Yankees want to keep Jones."

Interesting (and possibly pointed) use of won't and want here, signaling the Yankees acknowledge they may have to grin and bear it to include Jones if they really want Cease.

Yanks can't get it done without Spencer Jones imo.

Hopefully, either one of the teams break soon and include one of those top prospects.

Wow…tons of good stuff in there.  Definitely feels like the Yankees would need to offer Jones, Hampton, & one other decent piece (plus maybe a lottery ticket).

I’d be very curious what Getz would be targeting in the Orioles system if he can get a better return than that.  I get that Spencer Jones is about as high variance as prospects come, but I’d take him over anyone in the Orioles system not in their top 5.  The Orioles don’t have a pitching prospect as good as Hampton if that is super important and I’d probably take him over anyone not in their top five.  Realistically, I don’t see the O’s doing more than one of Kjerstad / Cowser, one of Ortiz / Norby, and a non-Hall pitching prospect.  Is that actually better than what the Yankees could offer if they included a decent 3rd prospect?

The best part of that article and the one thing we know to be factually true is that Cashman has his lieutenants are down in Tampa right now to discuss how to augment their pitching staff.  And it seem readily apparent that they don’t want to be left empty handed when it comes to adding a top-end starter before the season.  This should hopefully create a sense of urgency, especially if they don’t feel Snell or Montgomery will work for them, to push for Cease resolution in the next couple of weeks.

They “could” get a better package from the Orioles because they have the better prospects, but unless Elias flinches at some point, I wouldn’t be upset by a Jones/Hampton package.

My thoughts exactly, but what would you consider a strong offer from the Orioles?

Would they really let him hold up a Cease deal?  I get the ceiling is through the roof, but the bust potential is massive and they already have a completely full OF of impact talent if they can retain Soto long-term.
