TaylorStSox
Last year we were a team going nowhere with a trash farm system. This year, we're a team going nowhere with a solid farm system. I'll take it. 3

Balta1701
26 minutes ago, Chick Mercedes said: Oh dear. The excitement for the deal hinges on Zavala having CF upside totally for me. I don't have access to the pay stuff but found this from a year ago. Quote Law wrote that Zavala has “absurd bat speed, rifling the bat through the zone with big hip rotation for hard contact and power, while he’s already shown unusual plate discipline for his age, especially when it comes to laying off pitches out of the zone. As a defender, he shows good instincts and routes, playing center so far more than right, but the odds are he’ll move to the corner in the long term. His combination of high-quality contact and excellent decisions at the plate point to a huge long-term upside, with the risk inherent in any (18-year-old) with only 411 career plate appearances to his name.”

bmags
I don’t love this trade. I don’t hate it. For the record all my takes were good. In general, in any trade of a strong starter I’d prefer the return to be headlined by a position player. Pitching prospects, it’s like there should be an acronym about how they aren’t reliable. But I’m more lenient on receiving pitching headliners for pitching. Trade pitching headlined by position player prospects - gold standard Trade position players headlined by a return of pitching player prospects - good trade pitching with pitching returned - acceptable trade position player with headlined return of pitching - not ideal. Have to be incredible like a 25 year old coming off TJS. I don’t really get the profile of Thorpe but clearly people like him. Or at least like trading him.

"I've got no problem with our development" is a statement about the White Sox that is going to make me go grab the next whiskey. Mostly, you're talking about Hahn's work there, and that is some of the worst development possible. They took a clear loaded #1 system and turned it into a playoff appearance. The system produced 1 playoff appearance, broke down, then 2 years later produced a 61 win roster. It is hard to imagine worse development. The hope is that the guys who were just hired will be a significant improvement, particularly on the pitching front. But so far, this is totally hope. They could be the best ever, but skepticism is warranted. 1 4
WhiteSox2023
Make this dude the closer, give him every save opportunity possible, and see what prospect(s) you can deal him for. Add that to the return on this trade. “Padres Rookie Right-Hander Steven Wilson Has a Captivating Pitch Profile“

Ducksnort
I hate to be that guy, but this team has me so conditioned to expect failure. We've been rebuilding since 2013. Going on 11 years. Let the perpetual rebuild continue. Seriously though...this s%*# is sad. Cease, Kopech and Giolito should have been the 3-headed monster of a rotation on a team on top of the world for seasons to come. We were supposed to have a lineup for riddled with all stars, headlined by Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert, Jose Abreu, Yasmani Grandal. I was promised multiple championships. Yet, here we are. Same fucking place we were back in 2017. This scenario should never have needed to happen. Cease is going to be a MONSTER. I fully expect this organization to f*** it up again. Never built even a second wave of talent or even average major league depth. Didn’t sign top FA talent, didn’t properly supplement. Nothing sustainable. The system was a barren wasteland after the top graduated. We are sifting through the aftermath today.

Keep imagining. Eventually you'll land on Sydney Sweeney in bed begging you to motorboat her. Edited March 14 by chitownsportsfan
