Cease To Padres per Passan

Chicago White Sox

No reason to deal Eloy without trying first with a new set of hitting coaches...with an almost completely turned over starting roster and simply the fact that with Burger gone and Moncada soon to follow, you really have to get power from SOMEWHERE in the line-up when you play 54 games in the Chicago summer months at GRF.

I get the reference, but unless he has more value than reported, the Sox should keep Eloy and hope he goes nuts and improves his trade value.  Trading him for scraps to save ten million, just to turn around and play Sheets more, would be disheartening.

I don't disagree. Letting him rebuild his value is the correct course, but I'm just done with watching him ground out and get hurt doing anything. Same goes for the rest of the deadweight on the roster.

I think they need to get him out of the clubhouse.  Eloy may be a good guy but he doesn't do what's neccessary to get himself ready in the off season or to play a game.  With the new direction of the organization I don't think they want that type of bad influence around the new players they're gonna bring in.  He's had plenty of chances. It's time to move on.

Getz has boxed himself into a corner with Eloy. Didn't he more or less say he's gone, so he kind of now has to be gone?

He can always say he didn't like the offers and keep him around to see if he rebounds. Eloy might not be in Getz' long term plans, but he doesn't have to sell low now.

It’s just so pathetic they can’t find a manager that brings the best (or even not the worst) out of players

Yep.  No one is doubting the talent in the least.  The man can mash.  But to this particular team, he’s a net negative.  It’s too bad it didn’t work out.  Maybe in a different clubhouse, he will thrive.  He’s just made it really clear, he’s not willing to change to thrive in ours.

It shouldn’t take a manager or anyone else to get a professional baseball player being paid millions to give their best.

Pretty sad every Sox player comes attached with caveat...get him away from that coaching staff or that clubhouse.

Saw recently where TA7 was expected to get somewhere between $10 million and the QO amount.

Other than maybe Burger...and some will argue Bummer...Sox haven't gotten anything resembling increased value from any of their in-house assets.

Stuck with Santos for now, too.

Yeah, better get Eloy out of there so he can't leave a bad influence on all the young future stars like Zach Remillard!

Unfortunately, it is what's needed.

Just like any job, people get complacent during their employment.

Taking someone from good to great, yes!   But making sure someone wants to try?  Then I’d say hire a baby sitter for those guys!  Once they’ve had their milk and a snack, send them out to the field to play major league baseball for Pedro.  Pedro has his own issues, but making sure guys like Eloy feel like being a professional on any given day shouldn’t be one of those worries.  Let another team spend their time and resources figuring out what combination of snacks, games and cartoons it takes to get their players to produce in the major leagues.

Once asked about his team, Muser replied with this pearl, “I’d like to see them go out and pound tequila rather than cookies and milk, because nobody’s going to get us out of this but us.”

If Seth Lugo is worth 3/$45M and Glasnow + a salary dump (unless it's Randy instead of Margot) is worth Pepiot/DeLuca, Cease's value has to be climbing, right?

You'd think, and there are still enough teams looking for quality arms.

Snapshot in time. I believe Getz was serious about  defense. In a rebuild, you acquire assets, and fine tune for fit later by converting those assets into other parts.

Yes we take defense for granted but the Sox will never win unless they can out-homer their opponents at home.

On an Orioles' board that is similar to this, a person named "interloper" says:

It's worrying how long Chicago is waiting on Cease. That makes me think either they never really intended to trade him and are just fishing for a super lopsided deal and wasting everyone's time, or that there's a current bidding war for him and we will either get outbid or pay way too much.

And on Twitter, there's a lot of "Just go out and trade for Cease, already" from various other teams' fans. I think Cease will be traded, and I believe he will bring back a Chris Sale type deal (2 top 100, 2 middling prospects).
