Quin
Imagine an ownership group willing to spend money on Mookie, Freeman and Ohtani. And hiring a GM that made helped build the Rays farm system. Then he did it again. They didn't even really sign big free agents until Freeman and Ohtani.* We get Andrew Benintendi and prayers for prospects. And we share a spring training complex with them. The offices are right there! Just fucking network! Edit: I guess Bauer
FloydBannister1983
Jerry Reinsdorf has never signed someone to a contract greater than 1/9 of this contract. Let that sink in.

caulfield12
Sox will surely get him at age 38. Yamamoto suddenly becomes a must sign for someone missing out and goes up to the $250-275 million range. Ohtani inflation...a rising tide floats all boats. Ducksnort
So who was it that was reporting that money wasn't the motivating factor for Ohtani? ? I did the math. This guy makes more money in one single game that my entire 4-year education is worth. Let that sink in. Man makes more than my annual salary in an inning.

He's out of the American League He didn't go to the Cubs Out of the American league--not sure how much that really matters anymore with how much interleague play there is now. Not going to the Cubs--would have been real cool for the city of Chicago. Probably not so much for Sox fanbase. But the Cubs wouldn't go spending on any of their other needs after shelling out that kind of money, so they likely wouldn't win anything anytime soon even with Ohtani. Quin
The Sox fan in me wants Yamamoto sign with the Yankees to put pressure on Baltimore. Then the baseball fan in me wants to see LA sign him and trade for Cease to build an absolute monster and basically dare the other owners to step up their game. greg775
These contracts make no sense. Economy: Bad. Ticket prices: Already are too expensive for ordinary fans only going up. Baseball should be played in a studio cause only TV money is keeping it afloat. Good luck if these TV deals fall through some day cause of bankruptcy. TaylorStSox
The Dodgers have $1.27 billion invested in Ohtani, Betts and Freeman. That's more than the valuation of 5 franchises.
