The Dodgers…pre and post Friedman, have been able to come up with one of those guys on average every two seasons. Anderson, Rodon and Bummer are the only players drafted by Hahn with a White Sox career bWAR above 2.0 during their salary controlled six year window. You can add AJ Pollock to that previous list…he fooled Hahn in a similar way to Benintendi. Heyward to a lesser extent. I mean if we're just including everyone (i.e, not free agents), then I guess we include healthy Moncada (2019, 2021) and Luis Robert? Someone is just grumpy AF that the Padres bubble burst and it blew up in Preller’s face. We should pay his fever dream diatribes no mind, trying to argue reason is futile. It's contributing to basically the bottom half of the major leagues being left behind from a competitiveness standpoint. Especially those same lower tier teams being more risk averse like the Orioles and holding onto their prospects for dear life for fear of "all in" seasons that blow up like the White Sox over 2022-23. Sox are currently in the #30 position despite being in a massive media market and with their own self-controlled tv networks even...how is that even possible? What fans want the opposite of Seidler, an ownership group whose primary goals are financial and where a 3rd to 4th place finish might be considered ideal if setting record profits? White Sox would never have the vision to pull something like that off... as early as the kid being in high school in Japan, he was on their radar with his destiny written in the stars seemingly. Then when things didn't align six years ago...they still had the foresight to wait for the right moment to strike. caulfield12
https://sports.yahoo.com/why-shohei-ohtani-contract-deferral-232114904.html Four points… 1) Ohtani suggested it 2) No other players are getting $50 million in endorsements to keep the cash flow maintained, let alone $5 million with Trout going backwards 3) The difference in payroll threshold only amounts to adding Joe Kelly’s $9 million…$46 million vs. $55 million salary hit to LAD in 2024 4) Numerous teams could have offered similar packages, we already know the Giants did, for example…so less about Friedman/Warner and more about Ohtani’s desire to be a champion 1
