So, basically, we could have held onto Seby, and traded him and Jonathan Stiever to the Mariners for Eugenio Suarez? Suarez is only being paid about $11 million.

Talks about Zavala’s defense being good too. Still strange they didn’t just DFA Grandal at the end of the year since the position is thin but not a big deal I guess.

I doubt Seby, or Suarez for that matter, would make much of a difference.

Fangraphs has Suarez as 3rd best defensive qualifying 3B this last season. Seby seems to be a commodity, defensively apt catcher. Go figure. Suarez at 3B and Moncada at 2B might offer more offense than whatever it is they're conjuring up for 2024.

Yeah, there's about 6 guys who could be dropped from the 40 man and still be with the Sox in a week. I think the crunch was on the 26-man roster in September, and not the 40-man. DFA-ing Grandal would have been a bold first move for Getz.

The problem with your theory is this....Why would JR pay 11 million for a player instead of like 800k or whatever for Seby?

And if your answer is because he's a legitimate MLB player and might actually help the club in some way, Brooks Boyer will call you a bad fan.

Seby's defensive prowess (which is good) doesn't balance out his useless bat imo. 47 OPS+ is fucking terrible. seems like Seattle just wanted to save a couple bucks, swapping out Saurez for Urias. That franchise is as hopeless as the Sox in a similar market, larger in the context that they aren't playing second fiddle to a different team.

He'll be a fine backup for them I guess.

Just wait until you see Austin Hedges get a big league contract worth a couple million after a 27 OPS+ last year.

I thought about adding that detail but there still seems to be a reasonable chance that they trade for Salvador Perez instead.

I feel like you can see a scenario where they deal Eloy, trade for Perez, and go with 3 catchers with Perez getting a chunk of DH at bats as well.

Would be pointless but a possibility. Also, with Lee having options, he could be looked at as minor league depth and Hedges could be a backup.

I would prefer to just pair Lee up with Hedges (or some other defensive vet) and have Lee start most games at this point though.

Not that I actually watched full games down the stretch this season, but from what I did see Lee made Seby look adequate offensively

My wife and I were at Seby's big game. She asked me about him, I told her he couldn't hit and he hit a home run. Next time up, I mansplained how he got lucky and he hit #2. Third time, I pointed out how lucky he was and he jacked #3. Good luck Seby!

I love that story!!!

Why the F--K would Perez get any DH at-bats?

He's as much of a DH as Selby ever was...2-3 games in his entire career comprise 50% of his production like Trayce Thompson this year for LAD.

Because they're refusing to consider Ohtani.

White Sox West...well, actually a much more exciting team at least with Rodriguez.

Nah Angels are White Sox west. Except they spend money.
