I actually don’t want anything to do with Whit, but he makes even less sense with the additions of DeJong & Lopez.  We definitely need to add an outfielder one way or the other, but Whit shouldn’t be that dude.

Naw man this is our ben zobrist, total swiss army knife. You won't understand until you see what Grifol can do with him.

Yes, get an actual OF. Not a guy who is more of an every day utility type.

I just look forward to this lineup at some point next year once Moncada goes down with an injury:

  1. Andrew Benintendi, LF*
  2. Whit Merrifield, 2B
  3. Luis Robert, CF
  4. Gavin Sheets, RF#
  5. Andrew Vaughn, 1B
  6. Paul DeJong, 3B
  7. Mark Payton, DH*
  8. Nicky Lopez, SS*
  9. Korey Lee, CA

Eloy, traded or not, also hurt in this scenario.

You expect Robert to stay healthy also?

Writers just trying to stay relevant. I don't believe Merrifield or Perez are coming here.

all he said was "could be an excellent match'....calm down people calm down

People are upset because

1. It's an awful match

2. These national writers are plugged in and especially Morosi with that whole Michigan connection thing with Getz.

I hope this is just a "OK Mike, if you don't want to trade us an OF Savage, that's OK ill sign Merrifield cause I'm not expected to win anyway and even our owner doesn't care, and our fans expect garbage signings so it doesn't cost me anything and doesn't bother me and I'm happy to watch you burn" leak by Getz.

Trading Robert now wouldn't be selling high. No matter the return, it still won't match his value.

His value is dependent on injuries and maintaining mega power and GG ability in CF.

Someone suggested Top 10, plus Top 50, plus two back end Top 100s.

If we aren't winning anyway for two years, who cares? That's hard to turn down if someone would pay it.

I dont think we would get that 2 years from now even if he's still playing at a 5 WAR level.

And if we aren't winning for two years what are we waiting for?

This is the point. Not many teams could even pay that if they wanted to.

So 4 top 100s, including a top 10 and top 50? How many teams could actually do that? And how many of those teams are in a position to give that up and still be a competitive? Its a price few could and or would pay.

I'm not saying the Sox should or shouldn't trade him while they are abysmal, it's just hard for me to see a team being willing to pay the price. Or the Sox actually getting adequate value for his 4 remaining years of cost control.

Right. If only one or two teams could pay it, why would those one or two teams even pay that much if there aren't many competitors.

Just hold at least another year/year and a half and see if there could be some sort of quick turn around where things go better in 2025 somehow. Can still trade him then.

For now, we will still need a reason to watch and he's about it.
