Y2Jimmy0
The international signing period opens on Monday. I wrote a preview for FutureSox here: https://www.futuresox.net/2024/01/11/2024-white-sox-international-signing/ 2
Balta1701
Linked to #s 11 and 17 but not a lot of other noise. One is Profar’s brother, so already an MLB connection. No obvious place for the bulk of Their money to be spent. This sounds kinda normal for the White Sox.

Knew about Luis Reyes, Rafael Alvarez and Uribe only.

caulfield12
Who is doing all that scouting work in Venezuela? Paddy again? Or locally-based? We haven't had an academy there in ages...at least since it got increasingly dangerous with the political situation.

caulfield12
Insane this article was TEN years ago...and Wilder Saga still has a shadow over the DR seemingly. "(Marco) has a feel for what we need, said Del Matthews, assistant director of player development and scouting. Weve had recent success, but it was definitely needed. With the new rule changes in the basic agreement it kind of made it an even playing field for everybody and it was a great opportunity for us to ramp up our efforts and hopefully well see some fruit in a couple of years. Laumann believes international production will help the team in the amateur draft in terms of creativity. In years past, because the organization needed to add bodies the international program didnt produce, Laumann was forced to find players to fill holes instead of taking risks on higher potential draftees." ..... "After he spent the last 14 months assessing an international department that has produced one player over the past decade, Marco Paddy, the special assistant to the general manager in international operations, will add five new scouts. The amateur scouting department will also add two new scouts. While hes happy for the additional bodies in his department, amateur scouting director Doug Laumann is more pleased with the international hires. Rick Hahn last week described a department, which will add two scouts in the Dominican Republic, one in Mexico, one in Venezuela and another to cover Curacao and other areas, as bare bones." Profar is Curacao...but someone is really doing a lot of footwork in Venezuela, that was a barren wasteland for the Sox even when Ozzie and Freddy Garcia and their families ruled the Sox roost from 2003-2011...dating back further to Magglio Ordonez and obviously legends Aparicio and Carrasquel.
