Tough guy Pritzker playing hardball but him and his cronnies will be in a Suite on the 50 Yard Line the first game there acting like a hero.

Given the political climate and the resentment of the average citizen over a number of things today, unless the Bears can somehow (along with the White Sox) bridge a very sizable divide, I simply can not see the public going along with this.

Politicians are concerned about one thing only, their asses, they want to get reelected. If the public backlash is strong enough they simply will not agree to giving the teams basically a blank check.

Time for the governor of Indiana to step up.

The Jacksonville Jaguars' "Stadium of the Future" is a go, as the franchise and city came to an agreement on a $1.4 billion project on Tuesday. The proposal will see each side contribute $625 million to the project and Jacksonville would chip in another $150 million to get EverBank Stadium ready for construction beginning in 2026. The team will also not include any new taxes to pay for the rebuild.

Now that the plan was presented to a city council on Tuesday, members are slated to vote on it in June with a majority of 19 members needed to pass. Then, it would advance to the NFL owners meeting in October where they'd need 24 of 32 votes to reach final approval.

With construction set to begin after the 2025 season, the Jaguars would play in front of a reduced capacity crowd in 2026 and then host home games in either Gainesville or Orlando in 2027.

The updated look of EverBank Stadium was revealed last summer, representing the next step in the team's efforts to transform downtown Jacksonville. The Jaguars plan to make the stadium four times as wide as the current one with interactive social areas and food local to the city. The stadium will include state of the art technology and a shade canopy to reduce heat retention by 70%.

Why was AEW's Tony Khan wearing a neck brace during the 2024 NFL Draft? (jacksonville.com)

The son of the Jaguars owner is a hoot, he did an interview the next day and kept promoting his wrestling company.  Tony Khan needs to get a few billion from his dad and buy the White Sox.?

He’s a wacky dude.  He was always trying to call out Vince McMahon and the WWE in the past, even though their ratings destroy his for AEW.

Here is what I would like to see happen. Reinsdorf moves the ML & all the Minor League teams and personnel to Nashville and renames the ML team.

The Chicago White Sox name and franchise history stays in Chicago with the new expansion owner of the club. It would be similar to what the Cleveland Browns did.

An expansion team will not happen

No. Just the dumbest.

Cleveland kept the name and the history of the Browns. I think it was the only bright spot for their fans after getting shafted by Modell.

If the 1 in a million really did happen and the White Sox left Chicago, making them leave behind the name and history makes sense because teams will be fist fighting to get into Chicago for a chance at that market.  Whether it is expansion or move, it would happen and happen quickly.

Fans needs to stop deluding themselves into the idea that having the Sox move won't be that bad because MLB will quickly give Chicago an expansion team.  If the Sox did move, this is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

The fact that Chicago has 2 teams is a relic of a bygone era where a) several cities had 2 teams (Boston, Philly, St. Louis) and b) Chicago was the 2nd largest city in the US - larger than L.A.   Chicago is no longer a 2-team city for any of the major sports leagues.  The only 2-teams cities left are NY and LA which each have a metro area population something like double the size of Chicago's .

And for anyone clinging to the idea that MLB will want an "American League" team in Chicago, that distinction has become basically meaningless.   The AL and NL are no longer unique.  Everyone has the DH and every team plays every other team every year.  Don't be surprised if MLB pushes radical realignment at some point that will totally kill off the AL and NL for all intents and purposes.  This is much, much, much, much more likely to happen than Chicago being awarded a 2nd MLB team via expansion to maintain an "AL" presence here.

That arrangement with the Browns is by far the exception and not the rule of what happens when teams move.  If I recall correctly, this was done as part of a lawsuit settlement between the NFL and the City of Cleveland after Modell moved the team after the city approved funding for a new stadium.

The only other instance I can think of this happening is with the Charlotte Hornets after the original team moved to New Orleans.  Any way, this is moot because Chicago will NOT get an expansion team if the Sox leave and I stated above.  MLB will want to give a franchise to some growing sunbelt city who will pony up public funding for a ballpark and not to a city with a declining population that is totally dominated by the Cubs.

Yet they still command above average TV money and revenue, and get no revenue sharing money. All that despite being run like a lemonade stand.

I feel like a lemonade stand is at least transparent in its cost structure and bookkeeping

Exactly why they aren't moving.

Still a top 15 valued team despite 2 decades of neglect. Path to top 10 with the right ownership. Sleeping giant fanbase.

Sorry, this team's value isn't increasing in Nashville or Portland.

And to further the point- MLB relies on the ability to extort hundreds of millions of dollars from government whenever they want a new stadium. Not just the Sox, almost every team in MLB has played this game and will play it again. If they reward the cities that don't give in to the extortion with an expansion team and retaining the name as if nothing ever happened they lose their most powerful leverage in future negotiations with other teams and cities.  If the Sox are gone, they are gone, and Chicago is a one team town.

Even if you divide the Chicago market into 2/3 Cubs, and 1/3 for the Sox, that 1/3 of Chicagoland is bigger than pretty much anywhere left as a viable baseball expansion candidate.  If someone is going to pay a couple of billion dollars for an expansion team, they could do a LOT worse than the Chicago market, even as a secondary team.  In this made up scenario where the Sox leave Chicago, MLB could force JR to leave behind the name and history, which also leaves them a ready made audience for that expansion team instead of building from scratch.

When Jerry dies I wouldn't be surprised if baseball contracts the White Sox and grants an expansion team to somebody. Quite frankly which demographics would miss the White Sox? With the team looking like an unmitigated disaster for years to come, I don't think many people would cause a stink if baseball contracted the Sox and let another city have a team. The neighborhood of Comiskey isn't going to be affected. And Chicago has the Cubs which has an entirely different fanbase. The Sox don't have many fans and the ones they do have are miserable anyway over this inept franchise. I wonder if the legislature saves the day with the Sox included in the Bears stadium area plans. They could save the day if they build a baseball palace.
