That's something his family is going to continue to own after he is dead.

God help Bulls fans. It's amazing the gift Michael Jordan gave him, and his effort to try to mess it up. Pro basketball failed in Chicago. Then came back, was pretty good, but not great, Then MJ, and it's sellouts every night. He leaves, the team has never been so bad, but still sellouts. Now he can't get their games on cable, is fielding yet another lousy team, and interest is finally starting to fade. I used to be a huge Bulls fan, even before Michael. With Norm Van Lier, and Artis Gilmore....I watched whatever I could and would listen to Jim Durham on the radio for the rest. Since the demise of DRose, I look at it, but not engaged. The NBA as a whole, kind of bores me. I like watching Curry hoist 3's. but that seems to be the whole game now. Good analytically, boring to watch IMO. but a lot of people love it. I do think the Bulls are an exception. Their fans are starting to have had enough of being taken advantage of. What the Bulls do prove, is even if the Sox had stellar attendance, JR was still going to field a lousy team, just like he would at a new $2 billion stadium.

The Bears bought some land in Arlington Heights. That is where they will end up. The White Sox, who knows? But wherever they go, their owner will have to break out the checkbook.

If JR actually sells the White Sox. I would think he wouldn't be bothered with the new stadium. I would think he would have the new owner deal with the new stadium.

How many years did they refuse to pay the luxury tax while leading the league in attendance? Jerry has cared more about getting his revenue sharing free money than fielding winning teams for two decades. Different orgs, same JR.

The fact that JR is finding out that Chicago is not going to bend over backwards on the new stadium is why I believe JR will sell the team. He is going to let the new owner fight the battle.

Won't he take a huge tax hit if he sells the team while he is still alive? He bought the team for around 25 million I believe and it is now valued over 1 billion. Seems like a big tax bill will be due if he sells while still alive.

JR is a one trick pony. The threats to move the team will be increasing in frequency.

He doesn't own the entire team, so he isn't paying the entire tax hit.  The historic estimate is 20%.

What they can try is similar to what my siblings and I are trying to pull off right now. My dad has been in assisted living for a while and up until earlier this year we would pick him up and take him to his house and spend the daily with him. The house expenses were worth it. Now, he isn't going to be able to do that anymore so we want to sell the house. We are baking the Capital Gains tax into thr price of the house, and hopefully someone bites.  These guys rhat but teams aren't necessarily looking for a bargain, so sell it for a little more and let  the extra cover most of the tax.

Couple of comments ... The Bulls are a travesty. It's not THAT difficult to make the playoffs and the Bulls have missed out seven of the past eight years. Last 'good' season was 2015 when the team went 50-32 and lost in the conf. semifinals. Their players are all no names. Big market, awful franchise cept for the dynasty made possible by Mike.

This Sox stadium talk is silly/offensive. I may not like GRate much but still we don't NEED a new stadium in this economy. The state of Illinois is losing population because of the ridiculous taxes, especially in Chicago. I mean the current Cell is fine for the players with the amenities the players need like a huge clubhouse, indoor cages, weights, and all that, medical equipment like hot and cold tubs. The stadium is still a baby in terms of when it was erected. So drop the talk of a new stadium for 10 years Jerry and see where we are as a country in 10 years. With all the bleep going on we may not even be concerned with sports in 10 years with all the bleep going on in several countries not just the grand ol USA.

Keep the Cell for now. Rename it to Comiskey Park, do some cosmetic things, add even more good food and swimming pools/showers in the outfield and play ball. The wretched franchise has more things to think about than cramming a new stadium in that area they wanna move to. And if you MUST build a new stadium put it back in the old location, tear this one down and make it parking. Make the new Comiskey a replica of the old one except for the pillars that block the view and let's go old school by returning to the glorious retro stadium look of lore at the "New Comiskey Park." Commit yourself to reinventing Bridgeport, making it a glorious area with new housing, shops, etc. Sell the legislature on the reinvention of Bridgeport.

He doesn't have 10 years. His lease with the city for the current stadium is up after 2029. JR himself may not be around in 10 years.

City will attempt to block Cleveland Browns from moving out of downtown area after 2028...team suing in return

We visited Cleveland this year on our way back after our trip to Pittsburgh. Im sorry but compared to many other cities, downtown Cleveland is a dump. Does not surprise me one bit the Browns want to move out.

Why hasn't anyone thought up outfield swimming pools? *That's* what GRF is missing!

Just imagining Jerry standing there and coming to the stunning realization that we need a pool and like 5 showers out there.

“HOLY s%*#, I FIGURED IT OUT!  WE CAN STAY HERE NOW!  SOMEONE SEND TRAY HIS POOL PASS!”

Would Jerry be drowning members of the ISFA in this to make sure he gets his lease renewed?

Someone also hasn't been to Bridgeport in a while. Silly/offensive I tells ya.

Can't Bridgeport be turned into nirvana? Build, build, build. Doesn't the mayor live there? Tell me why the Sox need a new stadium at this particular time in history?

Could that area near Kauffman and Arrowhead that had like a Red Roof Inn and a Taco Bell once upon a time look like a destination zone?

Not likely.

One of the reasons the Kansas side wants to start all over from scratch.

So that’s all any scuttle about the Jerry selling is gonna be: Leverage. You’ll miss me when I’m gone (to NASHVILLE, snort).

Sure, if a megabillionaire wants to fly into Chicago and offer Jerry 150% of what the team is worth, covering what his family loses selling vs. inheriting his White Sox, sure, yeah, he might sell. He’s old, and his team is years away from getting back to the top of the division.

Don’t let your anger toward Reinsdorf cloud what is a playbook move — if there’s been a move at all (don’t forget this is all tweet wrapped inside of a feeling in hearsay reporting at this point). Jerry may truly believe that the one thing that will outlive him isn’t Championship Plaza outside of the current park but The 78, a presumed marvel of locale and fan experience. And if we get past his enormous and offensive ask of a billion dollars from a state that can’t and shouldn’t afford it and recognize it as another negotiation ploy, Reinsdorf is probably right. The 78 would long outlive him or memories of 2005 (well, it would live until a new park in The 79 is built in 2080).

Yeah, but the Royals are too chicken to move to Kansas. The area at the Legends would be perfect IF the Royals had to move from delightful Kauffman Stadium. There's the soccer stadium right there, the race track right there, Hollywood Casino right there, hotels in the area. Plenty of room for another stadium although parking would probably be a problem as there aren't even enough parking spots for the 20,000-seat soccer stadium. ... I think the Chiefs will wind up staying in the Sports Complex. Tearing down Kauffman gives them even more parking. Or they could build some more stuff in the Complex like Dallas has done with the Cowboys' complex. I think the Chiefs realize they don't need to go downtown. They are comfy in the Sports Complex. Meanwhile the Royals seem fixated on downtown. Again, no parking. Good luck getting lazer, older, fat sports fans to take public transportation to games. maybe one a year or two.

Not very hard to sell 18,000 tickets in a market of 9 million people. In addition the young generation are big basketball fans. There really isn't  any incentive for JR to put out  a winning Bulls team.

Sports are a joke nowadays cause of analytics. So boring to see everybody jacking up 3s and scoring off lob dunks. And in baseball so boring to see the HR or K game play out year after year. The 3-pointer when shot in volume gives a team its best chance to win. The HR is the only thing people allegedly come to see so it finally got featured as the goal for each and every at bat.
