WSFAN35
Alomar came to the Sox at the expense of Royce Ring, but what did he really bring to the Sox in the long run? He brought an enormous upgrade of Jiminez in the defensive department and provided much needed veteran leadership. Sure, veteran leadership and defense are a plus, but does he really have the rest of the tools to merit a starting position in 2004? He hit 253 with an OBP of 330, not too hot for a leadoff/second hole type guy. I do believe the Sox should bring him back for the 2004 season, because his leadership and intagibles are valuable to the team, but they don't complete the role of a starter. The Sox need to find a 2nd baseman like Vina or Castillo and put Alomar in the background.
SnB
I loved robbie last year. His style of play brought alot to this team. Unless we can get a big name 2B in the offseason, I would be very happy with robbie starting.

Who knows if Ring will pan out.
JDsDirtySox
I have to disagree. While Alomar isn't putting up his "greatest 2nd Baseman of all time #'s", I do not think he is a backup player. I think it will be interesting to see how Robbie prepares and trains this offseason. He has admitted he is finally happy and having fun again... and as the great Oz stated, having fun and good baseball go hand in hand. I think Robbie and Willie will be a good combo for us. Rex Hudler
Robbie would not come back for a back up role. Would he agree to sit against most lefthanders? Possible........ They key is finding a utility guy that can fill in against lefties. Isn't that also Graffy's weak side as well?
Guest JimH
Graffanino hits right handed and that's when he's usually in there ... against left handed pitching. If they re-sign roberto, which I think they'll do, he will definitely get his rest against left handers. Problem is, what do you do with Harris? He can barely hit right handed pitching, let along left handers.
KipWellsFan
I'd like to see Robbie Alomar come back next year but I would want him to be hitting in the 7 or 8 spot. He just isn't putting up the numbers to hit in the 1 or 2 hole. For him to be able to drop to the bottom of the order we would need a solid leadoff hitter which would come in the form of a new shortstop, or even a hot Willie Harris coming out of spring training playing centerfield. I don't think he is a Major Leaguer. He could surprise me, but I just don't see it.

Rex Hudler
Everything I hear about Ring is that he has a closer look and mentaliity, but is really made for the set up role. I believe he will be a solid setup guy. A Mike Stanton, perhaps?

Its really too bad, I met him a couple years back. He has a great mentality and work ethic. He has fun and works hard. too bad a good menatality doesn't do s*** for you. A good mentality does s*** for you? I wouldn't say that. Willie Harris has lots of time to prove himself maybe even for another team, and that good mentality may allow him to be persistent enough to stick somewhere. I just hope he will stick with us. Hell, he is an Ozzie Guillen type of ball player.

What I'm trying to say is that you can suck and go out there witha good mentality, but you need a guy whos got some skills, thena good mentality can help you out after that.
