Sleepy Harold
Instead of the season starting in June and running through August (last year the season started June 5 and ended on August 22), the season will now start May 4 and end July 25, shortly after the 2024 draft. Timmy U
Huh, so is everything after the draft sort of extended instructs?
Y2Jimmy0
So I’m guessing that college guys go to A ball but what happens with high school guys?

Pretty much, stateside "tricky league" will essentially be happening after that season concludes.
Boopa1219
They need to move the draft back to June. Ever since MLB moved the draft to July, the trade markets seems to much longer to develop and it of course gives teams less time with the drafted players. They should have the draft at the College World Series every year. 1

Definitely feels like things are shifting away from "game competition as only development". We'll see how brutal this transition will be for high schoolers to A ball will be now. If you get any NIL money and aren't a projected top 50 bonus guy I'd definitely go to college to develop.
South Side Hit Men
This may help the Astros and other teams which pushed to eliminate Low A MILB, but hurts the Sox and other "traditional clubs", and high school draftees who don't get the same Low A / Rookie league experience NCAA players enjoy. Seems as though MLB is more concerned with ASB off day MLB.TV programing than player development in terms of the draft schedule. Also takes away GM focus on MLB trade deadline efforts. Hurts all players trying to acclimate to 162 game seasons. How much can short season Low A teams cost? Draft First Monday in June Restore Low A Short Season Leagues Appalachian and Pioneer Leagues Optional for MLB Teams (late June - September (60-70 Games)) Arizona Rookie League Optional for MLB Teams (late September - early November 40 Games) + Current Arizona Fall League (late October - early December 30 Games)
