WSFAN35
It looks like one more pitcher has been officially added to the Free Agent bin. Chuck Finley turned down the arbitration offer made to him, and if the Cards don't get him signed by tomorrow (1/9) then he will be able to sign with any team. It seems as though that out of the top three free agent pitchers, Ismael Valdes, Robert Person and Finley, he seems to be the most expensive but also the most reliable. I think if the Sox are looking for a 2nd starter, then Finley would be the way to go. However, if the Sox don't want to shell out the cash, then Garland should take the 2nd spot and Valdes or Person would take the third. Cerbaho-WG
No way would I want finley. If we sign him, the Cards gets our 1st round pick, 16th overall. Edit: We have the 15th pick overall, which would only cost us a 2nd rounder instead.

Well combined with what cerb said, the fact that hes about 40, the fact that he gets beaten by his wife (not that Im sexist, I just like tough hardass people, probably because Im a hardass myself) and the fact that we beat the s*** outta him earlier this season makes me now want him here at all. We can do without Finley. Maybe Person, Hermansen or JB, but not Chuck.
cwsox
the fact that he gets beaten by his wife (not that Im sexist, I just like tough hardass people, probably because Im a hardass myself) Would you like him more if he beat on his wife? Whatever the facts of his domestic life, we certainly don't know those facts, and it is none of our business. The truth is never simple in a domestic matter. I'd suspect it takes a strong person to get attacked and not respond in kind. You have to be a pretty hard core person to have your private life discussed and mocked all over the sports media world and still stand tall. So Finley is cool as far as that goes. Now whether we should sign him or not, I don't know, he is getting up there in age for a baseball player and after the Whitesnake incident will he even consider Chicago? If the cost was low enough, why not? But if rejected arbitration, the cost may not be low enough.

cwsox
HSC could take us all out. And look very hot and very sexy doing it. Now that I think about it, it is a nice thought to picture in my mind...
zach23
You should have been at the bar that night. She was smoking cigars. Don't f*** with HSC, she'll kill ya!
witesoxfan
Wait a second....guys can't fight girls. It's against human nature. So I would guess that any girl could kick my ass....cuz I'm sure as hell not going to fight back. Guys just don't fight back. Anyways, on to the topic....Paul Wilson. That's all I'm gonna say. Chisoxfn
Finley's agent contacted the Dodgers today and said he will not be returning to St. Louis. The Cardinals have already informed him of this. I'd definately want him, but he ain't worth losing our 15th pick for.
Cerbaho-WG
We'd be losing a 2nd rounder. And anyways, I want to listen to Whitesnake when I walk into the park.
Chisoxfn
One thing I will say is that Finley is a real classy guy. That situation with his wife could of been a whole lot worse. He could of been some scumbag that ended up beating her, instead he did none of the sort. I've met Chuck (He used to come into the grocery store I worked at part time - on a side note, I hated working at that store cause all these snobs always came in) and I would talk to him when he was in and he was pretty cool. I've also watched him with the Angels a lot and he's a really good pitcher and a leader. He'd be an awesome pickup if he were to come cheaply. Of course I hate losing draft picks. Soxplosion
I wouldnt fight a women either but he shouldnt freakin cry about. He should take it like a man. Instead he goes and puts Tawny in jail and runs away like a coward. Im not gonna beat my wife and I dont think he should but if my wife were to threaten me shed be told off very harshly. Id be pushing back and confiscating those heels... Combine the fact that hes gutless, old and crap (not to mention wed lose a draft pick), nah, I dont want him on the Southside (unless, of course, hes there as an opposing pitcher and we can rack up another nine run inning on him, lol)... Chisoxfn
When you think about it, theirs not much else he could do. She was beating the crap out of him. You can't just stay their, you got to get away from her and get your kids away from her as well.
witesoxfan
I just recently read an article on the two lefties that were good last year that are up for free agency this year, or in the condensed version, Chuck Finley and Kenn Rogers. Though Finley is older, he's the better buy right now....if we lose out on the Colon race, than Finley would be the guy I want. And as for the read....it basically said that Rogers hardly struck out anyone last year....he had a s***ty K's per 9 last year....generally, when that happens, you will struggle the next year....but Finley had 8 some K's per 9.....and when you do that, than means you will not struggle as much. I could see Finley putting up a 13-15 win season with an ERA of around 4.25 or so for us....I'd take that. The only problem is that he's never won a postseason game....he got close this past year, but after he left the game, Arizona tied it back up, and then St. Louis went on to win. Show her whos boss! OK, maybe not that dramatic but dont be such a freakin baby! Fight back or something, just dont whine about it. But even without this, Finley is old, Finley is crap, and Finley sacrifices us a draft pick. Even tho thats probably the first guy KW will go after, I wont be pleased... doubleM23
I don't think compensation draft picks are lost/gained on the result of signing free agents any more.

I got a ton of respect for Finley. We all know as a major league athlete he could of probably got away with being an idiot and beating her, instead he did the smart thing. He may not come off like some tough guy, but he comes off as making a great decision in my mind. Their is no excuse for beating your wife or girlfriend. I'm probably mistaken, but I heard that they were at least throwing that idea around, and the owners got pretty much everything they wanted on this deal. :fyou
