So Jose is in the same company as Ripkin, ARod, and Tejada? Wow! Maybe we should pay him double!

WHITE SOX EXERCISE OPTION ON JOSE VALENTIN

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have exercised their 2004 club option for $5 million on veteran shortstop Jose Valentin.

Valentin, 34, batted .237 (119-503) with 28 home runs and 74 RBI for the White Sox in 2003, while posting a .969 fielding percentage, the second-highest of his career, at shortstop. His 28 home runs tied a career high (also in 2001).

Valentin became just the fourth shortstop in major-league history to hit at least 25 home runs in four consecutive seasons in 2003, joining Cal Ripken (1982-87), Alex Rodriguez (1998-present) and Miguel Tejada (2000-present). The switch-hitter became the 11th player in franchise history to hit at least three home runs in a game when he connected three times on July 30 at Kansas City.

In 10 full major-league seasons with Milwaukee (1992-99) and the White Sox (2000-present), Valentin has batted .246 (1,082-4,392) with 196 home runs and 652 RBI. He has a lifetime .958 fielding percentage in 1,093 games at shortstop.

K-layton made the same comparisons for himself..... only difference is that he claimed he was upper echelon "defensively."

Thanks for mentioning the Choice again. Whenever I get all negative about our shortstop situation I just have to remember the Klayton era and JosE6 gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Jose will teach the rest of the team how to have fun and get the job DONE!

I also think he made tremendeous strides hitting right-handed in the past 2 seasons. Who knows, he may hit RH exclusively in 2004.

5 mill is a bargain. Only a true leader could have taken less than his market value.

I needed a good laugh what a joke of an article.

I really believe the Sox giving Jose 5 million sort of shows us that they aren't too worried about money. Sure they may try to move Koch and Konerko, but I think a signing like this says they may try to re-work Magglio's deal and lock him up long term. I really hope so.

This move shows one of two things:

1.  The team will spend more money than we think.

2.  Kenny Williams is truly trying to unseat Ed Lynch as the most clueless, stupid, brain-dead moron GM in baseball history.

It also shows that some sum dumbass GM's r gonna overpay for talent once again this off season.
