In the "I didn't realize that he was still in baseball, but I'm glad he is" department, Carson Fulmer has thrown 21 2/3 innings for the Angels with  2.91 ERA.  Decent 1.29 WHIP, and it would be lower, but for the familiar 5.4 BB//9

Carson Fulmer is on the Angels???

What would the Sox record be with Rodon, Reynaldo, Dunning, Cease, Bassitt, Sale....be as the starting six?

At least 10-15 games below .500 with this current offense, but not a catastrophic failure of a team.

At this year's rates that would be $95 million in pitching.

Bassitt is too expensive now and on the downside.  Would have to look at Frank Montas, too, but he's not exactly super cheap, either.

Miami Marlins’ Tim Anderson Hits Bereavement List, Won’t Get Rematch With José Ramírez

Tim Anderson was suspended six games for fighting Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez in 2023, but the Miami Marlins shortstop won't be active for the rematch on Friday.

Anderson is batting .188 with zero home runs, six RBI, three stolen bases, a .427 OPS and a -1.2 WAR through 48 games in 2024. He also missed time with back and thumb injuries earlier this season, as well as an illness.

Astros Release Jose Abreu

The Astros announced Friday that they’ve released first baseman Jose Abreu. The former American League Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player is in the second season of a three-year, $58.5MM contract. Houston will eat the remainder of the money still owed to Abreu on that deal. A corresponding move will be announced by the club later today.

Rough one for Cease against the Mets today: 3.2IP, 7H (2HR), 7ER, 3BB, 5K.

He's been in a bit of a rough stretch overall lately, with a 6.37 ERA (26ER in 37.1IP) and 1.50 WHIP over his last 7 starts. Getting burned by the long ball.

Highly unlikely they trade him anyway with the injuries to Darvish/Musgrove and still right smack dab in the middle of the WC race.

Automatic DFA or at least benching.

Pirates legitimately in WC race.

Lazy is the word for both Grandl and the third baseman, whoever she is.

Holy s%*# TA has -.8 fWAR and a wRC+ of 40. He has AN ISO OF .015. .015!

Burger looking a little better.  He was at a .615 OPS and climbing recently, for a team like the Marlins, that's not bad enough to send him down or give up on him.

Although they already ate the Avi Garcia contract, and likely will soon with Anderson, Burger will get regular playing time for at least the rest of this season to fight his way out of it.

If you're an Andrew Vaughn fan, for example, there's always going to be a similar Burger Bash tear just around the corner that will push his OPS at least into the 700's.   Burger is not one of the worst players in baseball bad with how dominant the pitching has been in numerous aspects this season.

Remember that play, the 1st season he was here I think, when Grandal let a ball go through his legs that was thrown home because he wasn't paying attention to where the ball was? I think it helped to lose the game if I am remembering correctly. Good times.

Not a great year healthwise for the backend of the 2023 Sox pen.

Gregory Santos has been out all year, but is headed for a rehab assignment in AAA next week.

Joe Kelly has been out since May, and can't return until July 6th at the earliest.

Middleton and Graveman both out for the season without having thrown a pitch.
