Colon rumor

Recommended Posts

I would rather make a deal for Vasquez than Colon. He is younger, cheaper and I believe he still has two years before free agency. Colon is overweight and out of shape, I think it is only a matter of time before this catches up to him. He is an injury waiting to happen in my opinion.

I don't think we could go wrong with either. Of course I do think Colon is a much better pitcher, but I'm happy with either. Heck, I'm happy with someone like Robert Person.

Hell I'd be happy if they brought Charlie Hough back. Come on Kenny give us something.

I know weird stuff happens, but this team is due.  The only thing that would scare me is if our top of the order really fails, cause i Think that may be the biggest questionmark right with the pitching staff.

I don't really like Manos, although I guess he works, and I like Jimenez a lot, but were in deep crap if he fails at the top of the lineup.

The Sox have been "due" for years. Doesn't mean good things have to happen.

The top of the order was bad all of last year, except for April. D'Ang and Jose at the top will work real well.

Boston having a 28 year old GM is an interesting factor in it all.  He is a gutsy kid or is he is afraid to act, is he his own man or a puppet.  How he factors in the equation makes it kind of interesting in a spectator sport way.

Well at his age, he could be more patient, but then he could be more agressive.

I don't think Boston wants to give up Fossum and everything else, so they aren't going to make the deal. Look for them to land Vazquez or maybe Finley.

and if on the other hand he helps brings us a ring. if we have to overpay, he better not overpay toooooo much. lets not be taken as we were in the ray durham trade.

I know, look at all the teams that we're beating down the door to sign Ray as a free agent. :o

and we are not even going to get a comp pick that oak is going to get. yup we sure saved a lot by trading ray. oh did i forget to mention we have a superstar in the making in jon adkins. wow, i can hardly wait to see him make the majors as he tore up the minors last yr. yup we sure got the best in that deal.

As for Colon, whatever it takes to get him is fine with me.

does that mean that is we trade mark b, garland, rauch and even honel is fine with you?

I meant within reason, the Expos won't be getting 3/5th of the Sox rotation.

As for Ray, you and I are going to disagree on that forever. I think the Sox did fine, you disagree.

yeah we are going to disagree on jon adkins being the superstar that kw wanted. :nono

but i agree with you on 1 factor, we HAVE to give up something to get colon. i just want it to be too stiff of a price, esp if we don't resign him.

i think with mark b rejecting the offer, getting colon may lead to trading mark b later on.

I agree, I have long been underwhelmed by Colon but have held back saying so knowing how brutal these boards can be at times. He seems to me to be the classic underachiever. Some days his stuff is so overpowering it takes your breath away. Other times he's very ordinary. Maybe he is ready to have that breakout year, but I'm not ready to give up the farm for him. The fact is at this point in time Major League baseball is relatively pitching poor. Also, in addition to the weight Colon's mechanics are not the smoothest in the world. He's a strong as an Arabian horse but with his weight and his motion he is courting danger. Yes, I'd like to have him but not at any cost, and I would not assume that he definitely will be the long term ace we need to compliment Mark B.

Colon isn't Pedro or Schilling, where you know every time out all you need is 2 or 3 runs and it's over. However, if the Sox can somehow get into the playoffs and you can run Buehrle and Colon out there twice in a 7 game set, that's a good thing. Colon and that 100 MPH fastball in cold weather doesn't feel too well for opposing hitters.

i rather would have vasquez instead of colon. i would rather get dustin hermanson or robert person to go with either one. i thing i forgot about is losing out pick in any fa we sign. that is where i am going to stop whining about getting a fa.

Oh well, I guess winning 20 games last year qualifies as a "breakout" year for Colon. Go get him if you can, but not at any cost.

Is it just me, or do you wish that the WhiteSox would just s*** or get off the pot?

I mean I want them to get Colon, or whomever....... but I mean I am getting real tired of all speculation. Either pull the f***ing trigger or come out and say........ See the current roster, Ya thats what were going to the season with. Well see what happens.

I'm getting scared. I was happier when I thought KW wan't going to make any trades. I like the thought of getting Colon, and I wouldn't mind giving up Wright to get him. But I know that KW is going to end of giving away Garland (HUGE mistake) along with the rest of the farm.

:puke

Well, if taking time ensures that they will make a good deal by the start of the season, then I'll wait, but with the Sox, taking time just means they aren't going to get anyone...usually.

I do think they is a 50% shot we get Colon or Vazquez though, I just got a good feeling.

Well my thinking is that if somethings gonna happen it will happen tomorrow, since tomorrow is the last day we could sign Ritchie before May 1, I think, so hopefully something will happen tomorrow.
