WestEddy and poppysox?

Some posters were saying that DeJong, Lopez, and Fletcher/Pillar would HAVE to be an improvement over SS, 2B, and RF from last year.  Oops.

Defensively yes. And honestly, it’s shown on the pitching/defense side as the team carries a 4.13 ERA thru 7 games (compared to 4.87 last season) and only has 2 errors thru 7 games (lowest in MLB). I don’t think anyone was arguing those guys would hit, at least I hope they weren’t arguing that.

^and for the reasons above, I was advocating for holding onto Cease until July. I really felt he would have had 2022-like numbers pitching with this defense behind him, compared to that train wreck of a defense last season.

And the Sox likely traded away a better pitching prospect for one of those new players than they will probably even receive when they sell at the deadline.  Genius Getz also gave up one of his infield prospects to keep his garbage roster intact.

Nah. If Crochet, Wilson, Fedde keep pitching like this and the Sox decide to trade them in a few months, they’ll get a very nice haul of prospects in return.

Hip flexor, but that’s also what he messed up badly a few years ago and missed a long time

May 2, 2021 – Seasons can change in a heartbeat and on this day the high expectations for the White Sox took a stunning turn for the worse.

Five tool outfielder Luis Robert, the Gold Glove outfielder and runner up in the 2020 Rookie of the Year voting completely tore his right hip flexor when beating out a ground ball in the first inning in a 5-0 loss to the Indians.

The White Sox were already without the services of Robert’s teammate Eloy Jimenez, one of the top young sluggers in the game, because of an injury that happened late in spring training.

Robert wasn’t even able to try to resume baseball activities for a period of a few months. His loss left a gaping hole both offensively and defensively in the White Sox lineup but remarkably after a grueling rehab he returned to the team on August 9 in Minnesota and helped contribute to the club winning the Central Division with a total of 93 victories.

His injury-luck though continued into the 2022 season when he missed time with vertigo, blurred vision and worst of all, a sprained left wrist that never properly healed and was so bad at times he was swinging a bat one-handed.

No one will trade for Crochet when he will be at his innings limit.  Wilson is good but I doubt he is going to get you a prospect like Mena.  And I have zero faith in Fedde to keep this up.  We already saw what Cease was traded for.  You are kidding yourself if you think some of these guys are going to return good prospects.

Who said crochet is on an innings limit? I’ve only heard people talking about that here. Wilson will absolutely get a prospect like Mena if he keeps this up. Relievers with good stuff and proven MLB success with multiple years of cheap control are very valuable in July. Fedde is TBD but I like what I’ve seen so far.

That's assuming a regular GM is doing the negotiating.

Getz is gonna want your best David Eckstein impersonator.

So you think Crochet is going to throw 200 innings this season?

I would only buy Wilson returning a prospect like Mena if the Sox were using him as a closer and he is lights out.

Fedde will crash and burn eventually.

And don't forget they also lost Brebbia to the same injury he had a week into spring training.

The baseball gods have made it clear until new ownership arrives they are going to keep dumping on this organization in anyway that they can.

So the same one. Wonderful.

From DVS post game story tonight at the Sun-Times:

Robert injured his right hip flexor, pulling up after rounding first base. In 2021, he suffered a Grade 3 strain (complete tear) of the same hip flexor. Robert walked off slowly under his own power.

Manager Pedro Grifol said Robert would be re-evaluated Saturday.

"He’s hard to replace," Grifol said. "You don’t replace a guy like him, but at the same time, next man up. We have to go out and continue to fight and do the things we need to do."

It was a cruel blow to to a team that has lost six of its first seven games for the fourth time in franchise history and for the first time since 1995. In the most winnable division in baseball, the Sox are 0-5.

"The worst thing we can do and this is not going to happen is feel sorry for ourselves," Grifol said. "We are not going to do that.

"I'm proud of our guys, man. There's a lot of energy. These guys want to win every single day. They play to win. They care. They care for each other."

It will take more than that to win games, however.

One hundred and fifty-five to go."

Just my opinion but if this organization was a horse it would have been shot years ago.

Or perhaps the incompetent training staff strikes again...

I completely agree about the medical, training and conditioning staffs for reasons I've stated the past few years.

I'm at the point where I feel sorry for any young players brought into this organization. What do the Sox do well, as an organization? Do they have a single facet they can hang their hat on?

I honestly don’t know how many innings crochet is going to throw but I have yet to see anyone affiliated with the Sox indicate he’s on a limit have you?

Wilson will absolutely be closing games for the Sox if they actually have a lead to close. Who else is going to close? No way you can put Kopech in that role after his control issues yet again to start this season.

What have you seen from Fedde to indicate he will crash and burn? He’s looked good to me. A solid #3/4 type starter. At just $7.5M/year that has a lot of value to a contending team in July especially with the way top starting pitchers are dropping like flies early in this season.

A Crochet innings limit is just common sense, man. Arm stamina has to be built up.

Just saw that Robert got hurt. You can't make this stuff up. Everything we fans thought would happen (no offense injuries) has happened in the first week. This is insane.

Hi. I flipped back and forth between Sox/Royals and Iowa/UCONN.

We'll figure it out. IL Robert, bring up Colas, platoon Fletcher and Grossman in CF. f*** it. Start Lee, start Sheets. Grifol has to get creative. Even Ozzie's wondering about sticking Benny in the 1-spot.
