Sheets won't get starter at-bats, but if he puts up 1.5-2 bWAR this season, that's great. Daniel Vogelbach is a comparison, and we'll never sniff the money he's made hitting a home run every now and then. That aside, Sheets is probably a way better overall hitter and athlete than Vogelbach ever dreamed of being. I’ll take that as a ban bet by the end of the season. We can even put it into our signatures to hold us to it. Interested?

Uh, yes, I'm "chicken" to make any binding bet with a guy whose goalposts are always moving, and doesn't even know the definition of words. Why don't you post your casino bet ticket at the value of your house that the Sox won't cover the over on 42 wins? You love to pretend you're the baseball savant. go bet the money, and post a copy of your ticket. Otherwise, STFU. i will not be joining you, as I'm not a moron, and don't sports bet.

T R U
Gavin Sheets sucks, but as its already been said hes not blocking anyone or preventing anything so let him ride his hot streak and then we can all complain about how much run hes getting as the #3 hitter based off a week long streak at the start of the season. Bob Sacamano
Can’t really complain about him hitting 3rd or 4th when there’s literally no one else. The problem will be what to do when Eloy comes back. Wouldn’t mind Vaughn getting sent down for a while.

The Sox are going to ride his current hot streak until it ends and then ride him for another 250 at bats into the deep freeze of his upcoming and inevitable cold streak. Gavin Sheets is in this position because everyone one in front of him is hurt and/or awful right now. He keeps getting chances not because they see him as special, but by attrition because he can run to 1B without getting hurt. If someone better gets developed, they will take the job. Sheets was one of the last guys on this roster.
KipWellsFan
9 hours ago, Greg Hibbard said: I am not panicking about anything, that seems a strange way to put this. How could anyone panic about anything on this team? We have reached the literal bottom of our fandom. I’m not afraid of blocking anyone on the current team. The first baseman of the future should be a quality proven MLB FA or a high draft pick. The point is that I don’t want some Jose Valentin type of situation where a replacement level player becomes this evergreen mainstay “heart of the team” for the next four seasons while scuffling to Dan Pasqua type numbers because he has a hot first half in one year. That’s a very White Sox thing to do, and I think you know it. An even more White Sox thing would be Gavin Sheets and Andrew Vaughn becoming some sort of “Veets” 1B platoon that maxes out at a combined 28 HR and .805 OPS. I’m saying Sheets hot streak - whatever it ends up being - can’t be for real. He will come back to earth for many reasons. Having a replacement level 1B might be passable if we had any power prospects at any position. In the White Sox’ case, we need a prototypical slugger on a team that struggles to score runs. Sheets ain’t and won’t ever be enough. Random thoughts... Gavin Sheets WAS a high draft pick, and Jose Valentin was decidedly better than replacement level. Not to keep this argument going but I offered @WhiteSox2023 a ban bet in another thread when he said they'd lose 120 games (I offered him 118 I think?) and he changed the subject immediately after accusing me of being related to Jerry Reinsdorf. I'll still take that bet....

Don’t want him back in the OF (though I guess it doesn’t really matter at this point). Sheets should not be in the outfield, nor should Vaughn, nor should Eloy. We still have the problem of too many 1st baseman/DH's. When Eloy comes back, if Sheets is still hitting like he is, it's my opinion that Vaughn should either be benched or sent to AAA to receive the playing time. If Sheets' bat is actually something and this past week is not a fluke, he should be the primary at 1B. He's left handed obviously and taller, which gives an edge over at first base, and the lineup needs left-handed power especially if Eloy is in it (not that he would stay in the lineup very long anyway until his next injury).
