Tommy Pham close to deal with White Sox

I think you basically need to play Benintendi mostly everyday against RHP, at least for now.  Sox still owe him like $65M.  Absolutely have to try to find a serviceable player out of him, especially in a lost season.

Of course but he's probably started every game in LF against LHP too.

Tommy Pham, little does he know, he's gonna be THE fan favorite. He's our only hitter (cept for mabe Vaughn and Sheets) who can possibly hit a HR. Pham is gonna take over the South Side. Get him a Spam commercial ASAP.

He strikes me as a Tony Phillips spark plug. Option Vaughn.

Yeah, it’s time to send Vaughn down and let him work through his s%*#.  There is literally nothing to lose in doing so as he’s a legit non-tender candidate next off-season if he doesn’t substantially improve by then.

This cheap organization? Kind of.

Yeah, but that Pham would get that much? He was still a little above average player last year, and still has legs

If anything, he should have been worth like 7-10 million on a one year deal

Well, now that he's here, hopefully he comes in and whips some of these fools into shape, rakes and then we trade him for someone interesting to plug in for a 2 month tryout in August/September.

Traded for a 17-year old, left-handed infield prospect last year. Would be good if we could do that again (with any of these guys).

You’re shocked by three million?

And the potential to make $4.5 million.  I realize a $3 million base salary isn’t much but no other team was going to sign the guy due to his age unless they suffered an OF injury.  Pham was just sitting around waiting.  For a team trying to compete I could see it making sense.  But I’m surprised JR would agree to pay more money in an attempt to prevent what looks unavoidable, a record losing season.

A player is worth what a team is willing to pay for him.  No team was willing to pay Pham that kind of money on the free agent market, hence his value wasn’t that high.  I realize he was productive last year but he’s also 36 years old and could be in line for a steep decline.  That could be why no team thought he was worth throwing $7 to $10 million at.  Baseball is a young man’s game and only the Sox haven’t figured this out yet.

After this year the Sox should have a pretty young team overall. The Sox also have the 11th youngest team in the league currently. But yes, only the Sox.

Obviously I am talking about their long history of free agent acquisitions being old, past their prime veterans.  You know, their offseason strategy for the past 20+ years under Getz, Hahn, and Kenny.

Or he puts up a .400 OPS like the rest of them...

I take it back, apparently the Sox outbid San Diego for Pham...  Wow, WTF are we doing?

Trying to not set multiple records offensively and also a loss record. Hopefully they drop Pillar.
