I for one, could have NEVER guessed that a guy with no record of success at a lesser position, and no skill set for his new position, would struggle with all facets of being a MLB GM.

Dude, you are forgetting, he possesses the absolute and unquestionable most important aspect to being a White Sox employee…he will say yes to Jerry regardless of the circumstances.  That’s the qualification.

And promised he could build a competitive team with low salaried, defensive-minded players

Like seriously, how is there not more concern about how bad Getz seems to be at this job?

He inherited a historically bad major league team with a bad farm system, a historically cheap owner and 2 valuable assets - Cease and Robert. What's he supposed to do?

Step 1 - NOT try to get a bunch of 35+ marginal at best MLB players, more time towards their MLB pension?

Let pieces of the future play, along with some vets, rather than a team full of 30+ scrubs that have no future with the org. Its stupid. And that is coming from one of the more positive posters around here.

Anything other than make them worse?  Like are you serious?  Anything other than DFA prospects in their mid 20s to bring up below average hitters in their 30s?  Anything other than assemble a lineup that is so historically bad offensively that they are forced to play the DH in the outfield 25 games into the season?  Anything other than go into opening day with a 4 man starting rotation headlined by a reliever that has never pitched more than 76 innings in a season?  Anything other than retain the worst manager in MLB after a 100 loss season?  Anything other than trade a Mena for a guy that you send down before May?  You mean things like that?  Stop being obtuse.  It’s currently on pace to be the WORST TEAM EVER ASSEMBLED IN MLB HISTORY!

At this point, I feel that Soroka, Flexen, Fedde, Keller, Clevinger, Brebbia and Leone are very important parts of this club's future. Get any of them tuned up and trade them. Sosa, Colas, Fletcher, Lee, Nastrini and Cannon will have 2 solid months of major league time in August and September.

Yeah, so he can be blamed for rushing prospects. That makes sense. It would be criminal to introduce your solid prospects into this s%*# show.

He could keep Colas and Sosa up, but it's pretty clear there's something wrong with Colas' attitude and Sosa screams AAAA. Either way, it's doubtful they're difference makers.

You have to fill a roster.

Not with +32 year old guys that can’t hit and…in a lot of these cases, apparently play defense or run the bases.  If you think Getz is doing even a remotely competent job as GM so far, or as Director of Player Development (for what you, yourself termed one of the worst systems in the league), I’ve got some oceanfront property in Montana to sell you.

Wasting 4 million on one of the worst players in baseball was a really bad idea.  The Braves trade sucked as well, as they didn’t get a single interesting piece.

What prospects did he DFA? Bailey Horn isn't even top 30 in our farm.

The Braves trade wasn't interesting? We traded them Aaron fucking Bummer. What did you expect?

Oakland still hasn't figured out how to get Alex Speas to consistently throw strikes, and Jose Rodriguez has faltered to a slash line of .179/.309/.321 at AA. They're "prospects" like Zach Remillard is a prospect.

He turned a bad farm system into a top 10 system while trading 1 real asset - Cease. I don't think he's done a good job. I also realize he has very little to work with.

The thing is, I can no longer tell if this is Getz trying to rebuild, win, or try to just not be the worst team of all time.

But the thing is, he's failing at all three.

He's panicking like he has a month late period.

Jared Shuster looks like he could grow into a lefty long man role, and Riley Gowans is doing well at Winston-Salem.

Not freaking panic during the first four weeks of a rebuild?

Sox went for quantity over quality.  Other teams were absolutely interested in him, but Getz used it as a trade to fill roster spots at the big league level.

So the 24 year old in A ball with a 4.70 ERA is doing well, but the 21 year old in AAA with a 3.75 ERA is a “work in progress”?  You Getz apologists are trying way too hard.

Don’t trade one of your best pitching prospects for a 26 year old, light hitting platoon outfielder

Mena is a RH that throws 92 and has inconsistent command. Of all the people on here that shouldn't care about trading a kid that doesn't throw hard, it should be you.
