The White Sox are not going to sign Fedde to an extension. They would need to commit minimum $18-20 million per year for multiple years if he is this low 3 ERA guy. Let some other team that doesn't care about money make that signing.

Surely JR has never even considered it even once.

The problem is most of the guys we signed will have even less trade value. Do you celebrate a good return for a bad signing? Or do you celebrate an ok return for a great signing? Just to be clear, my issue is not with the return; rather, it is with the signing itself. AHT was available last rule 5. To get him, we did not have to sign a lousy player. Me I want the club to target high-end prospects who have the potential to make a difference, and you only get that for rentals that are considered significant players at the deadline. We aren't going to sign high end players who will command multiple top-100 prospects at the deadline. No such player would want to sign here right now. So why not sign guys who are reclamation projects like Fedde, Grossman, etc., who can bring some lottery tickets in return? The only "significant" trade pieces are basically the ones we've already got/had like Cease and Robert.
WestEddy
Speas was DFAed to add Grossman. Traded to Oakland for cash considerations. Red Sox roster move: They’ve claimed righty Alex Speas off waivers from Houston and optioned him to AAA. — Chris Cotillo (@ChrisCotillo) June 29, 2024 Edited June 29 by WestEddy
