If one wants to try to understand the likelihood of hamstring injury recurrence after  hamstring surgery or hamstring injury I suggest reading RECURRENT HAMSTRING INJURY: CONSIDERATION FOLLOWING OPERATIVE AND NON‐OPERATIVE MANAGEMENT

Knowing that it seems unlikely that Eloy will be ever able to have an extended period of playing time without re-injury and he may have a hard time getting another large contract with any team.  The fact is though that this condition is not his fault.

It's not his fault true.

He can get over any criticism by counting all the money he's making for basically contributing nothing. They should at least start training him to be a scout or something. Put him to work as he's never gonna contribute on the field more than 10 games at a time then eight weeks off, then 10 days at a time then 12 weeks off.

Perhaps he should get in better shape then.  Yoga perhaps?  Either way, it’s his body and it most definitely is on him.  These excuses are so damn weak.

Conditioning following hamstring injury or surgery does not appreciably reduce the likelihood of re-injury, at least according to the link I posted, which I thought was well researched and worthwhile reading for anyone interested in the topic.

I wish I were the fly on that wall.  Did we insist on Eloy, or did the Cubs outsmart our GMs and shove him down our throats.

You really think they knew.

I have never seen a guy get this injured. It's usually right after he starts to hit well too. I honestly feel for the guy he must have done something terrible in his past life where he can't even play DH without suffering some sort of injury.

It's funny because it reminds me that Bartolo Colon and David Wells spent pretty much the entire of their career healthy looking nothing like an actual athlete.

After declining both options it will come out to $46 million for somewhere around 5.5 career bWAR when it’s all said and done.

So incredibly disappointing, but not as disappointing as the lack of accountability in this organization.
