12 losses in a row. Someone needs to resign or be fired. New Maldonado line at .080

Recommended Posts

How much longer can this team go to the well with losers like Grifol and Getz?  If Grifol had any pride he should be resigning. He is got to be one of the worst managers in MLB history.  This team needs to be shaken up now.  Maldonado is 0-28 and the Maldonado line is now .080.  Not any players are going to be below this line, so this record will be hard to beat.  Another major embarrassment.  He should be DFA.  The Sox need more bats and more runs.  Maldonado is an automatic out.  Blowing the lead to the CUBS tonight should be the nail on the coffin and makes an urgent change a necessity.

They’re going to lose 19 in a row and will win on 6/11 against the Mariners. After that win they will lose 7 in a row, winning again 6/21 against Detroit. They spilt that series and then get swept by the Rangers. They win the first game against the Rockies and then lose out the rest of the month.

This means they close June with a 4 and 24 record.

They then win one more game before the All-Star break and during the break, Pedro is fired.

Getz waves the flag big time before the deadline and sells every asset possible. Robert, Crochet, Fedde, Pham, DeJong, Kopech, and more all are gone ushering in three years of hell.

The irony is, that while the 2024 White Sox end the year with the worst team record and worst run differential in history, each subsequent year shows improvement after they’ve let go of their best players.

By 2029 the team actually does something it never has before and spends huge in free agency.

In 2030 they open their new stadium with what looks to be a World Series force… and wouldn’t ya know it… 26 players get injured. Four players have their arms fall off ( literally ), two hitters have their eyes pop out of their sockets, and at least one center fielder sprouts wings which makes it impossible for him to use his legs ever again.

This is exactly how it will happen.

Grifol isn’t being held accountable because we have a GM that is as inexperienced and incompetent as his manager and probably has no idea when Grifol screws up.

If we are to believe Frank Thomas, Grifol is being told by Getz as to who to play. ?

What a circus… we had so much hope when TLR and the two headed Kenny Hahn monster were all sent packing.

Then Jerry did THIS. ?

I feel like this streak is the Bizzaro version of that scene in Moneyball where the A's go on that 20-game winning streak, and Billy Beane is all vindicated lifting weights and driving his car by himself while the crowd goes nuts.

Schriffen last night... Pedro always says anything we get with thr bat from Martin is just a bonuss..

John, that's to excuse a guy hitting like 210 and playing elite defense. Not to excuse a guy hitting. 080

Maldonado's OPS of .247 is lower than the ISO of 14 qualified hitters.

His OPS of .247 is lower than the batting average of 82 qualified hitters (there are currently 155 qualified hitters). That means that his OPS would be considered a below-average batting average.

On paper this team is bad, but they're not this bad.  That, to me, says a lot about the leadership, or lack thereof.  We've seen Grifol make bad decision after bad decision, and he has probably the worst bullpen management in the game.  As far as Maldonado, there's no way he should be part of any MLB team.  His defense isn't even good enough to justify a .180 BA, let alone a .080 BA.  Let that sink in - the Sox are keeping a guy on the roster (and playing him regularly) that EVERY OTHER TEAM would have DFA'd a long time ago.  If Getz were an even half-decent GM, he'd take Grifol's toy away and bring up Robinson or Perez or Hackenberg.  Lee should be catching 5 out of 7 games.  One of those guys would be a better option than Maldonado.  It's fucking embarrassing.

Sorry - his OPS is now .244.

That puts his OPS tied for 88th with Jesse Winker's batting average

Too bad he has that one home run in there to mess up his stats.

In my mind, there are some very basic changes that should done be ASAP.  The first is releasing Maldonado and going with Korey Lee as the primary catcher like you suggested.  The Chuckster can be the backup option for all I care as anything is an upgrade from Martin.

Next, Vaughn should be optioned to AAA and Sheets should be given the 1B job.  This version of Andrew simply doesn’t work and Gavin has been useful against RHP.  Make Vaughn dominate AAA before getting another shot.

Finally, give Colas and Sosa everyday opportunities the rest of the way.  It’s now or never time for these two and let’s give them an extensive evaluation period so we can make proper 40 man roster decisions when the time comes.  IMO, Colas deserves playing time over Fletcher in RF.  He’s got the louder tools and has improved his plate discipline quite a bit this year in AAA.  And Sosa should easily get opportunities at 3B and 2B over Lopez & Mendick.

The Sox won’t suddenly be good by making these moves, but at least they would be more watchable.

What makes you think Getz doesn't want him around and playing.

Korey Lee made the 26-man cause Stassi got hurt and Pedro — amazingly — has had the wherewithal to give him playing time, just not enough to fully relegate Maldonado to backup. He also does dumb s%*# like put them both in the lineup, like last night.

But if Stassi hasn't gotten hurt, Lee would have remained catcher #3 on Getz's depth chart.

That's my point.  Getz apparently wants Maldonado on the team...or at least doesn't care if he's on the team getting 50%+ of the playing time.

By this point, you 100% are justified in making this assumption.  If it were different we can safely assume that Pedro would be out on the street by now, or the line up would be different.

Just this 12 game losing streak should be enough to jettison Grifol to the moon, or at least the street.  He's doing a horrendous job with a bad team.  There has to be someone who can do a good job with a bad team and scrape together a few wins.  Hell, I'm willing to bet there are plenty of us on this board who could do a better job.

Whatever is going on it’s going to be a monumental undertaking to get the White Sox back to respectability. The only hope right now is that the AA Birmingham Barons are having a great year and eventually there might be some help on the way but the most important thing that is needed in new ownership.

This is in no way for sure, but a cursory Google search indicates that the lowest season batting average was .074 by Joe Werrick in 1884.

That seems like another doable record for this team.

Yes!  I want all the records!!

I never thought I would be rooting for the return of Max Stassi, but get well soon buddy!

Much like Miguel Cairo a few years ago, I will not believe Max Stassi exists until I see him.
