Rex Hudler
Your opinions of USCF are fair and accurate. I happen to like the place, however, I really like Wrigley too. Not having the hatred for the Cubs that many Sox fans do, it allows me to enjoy both ballparks. I do think however, that you are in the minority and that the numbers will tell you people still like Wrigley Field better. There are many reasons for that, but that is not the topic here. Wrigley is a nice piece of nostalgia, but USCF is a FAR better place to watch a baseball game. It is better in every aspect - PARKING LOTS, for one. Also better food, better sight lines, NO sitting behind posts, better scoreboard, better fans, tailgating ( see parking lots ), and so on. The ONLY thing the Decaying Confines have over USCF is that the place looks more like a ballpark, and the Sox are working on that. USCF will never dislodge Real Comiskey from the #1 spot in my heart ( it is, after all, where I saw my first game, and I'll never forget walking up to the place and smelling the cigar smoke from the guys in front of me ), but it is a DAMN nice place to see a game, and as it stands right now it's a HUNDRED TIMES better than the Decaying Confines, and only getting better. Until more people think like you, I'm afraid you will be in the minority. The masses do not seem to feel the way you do.
cwsox
I think they're going to put a roof on that almost completely cover the UD. You know I love the UD too. I hope this doesn't invite too many people up there. I hope not too much of a roof - I love (I guess it would be past tense now) sitting in the UD and feeling so like I was outside - it felt so expansive, sky overhead and all. Last time I sat in the uppr deck at Wrigley I hated that roof over me, gave me closed in feeling and even with the roof open at Miller I still feel closed in. As I think about it, I never (well, hardly ever) sat in the old Comiskey upper deck, preferred the left stand grand stand, never liked the roof over my head at old Comiskey either. You're definitely in the minority here. Most Sox fans disliked the upper deck because of the slope and open-air dimension that, when put together, contributed to some Sox fans feeling vertigo. A roof that encompasses, but doesn't cover, the upper deck..... like the one I have seen in some renovation photos..... will lessen the vertigo feeling. They have a chance to make USCF the second best retro park in the majors. A.D.D-addled casual fans aside, minimalism is conducive to game-watching. I just hope the cheap bastards don't try to do anything crazy like hiring a second-rate architect. This thing HAS to be done RIGHT in all respects. No matter the (reasonable extra) cost. Thank God they're paying to renovate JR's mistake since he wouldn't think of spending his own money to do it.

They don't need much of a roof up there. Especially since they're going to close off the concourse up there. Boy, I wish it was closed off during that delay on Opening Day last year. Thank God they're paying to renovate JR's mistake since he wouldn't think of spending his own money to do it. While Sox fans are FAR from paragons of loyalty and spending, JR's remarkably consistent IDIOCY of trying to save on EVERYTHING has led to 10 years of mediocrity, leading to a large number of fans getting frustrated with the franchise and taking their business elsewhere. Sox are a non-existent franchize nationally as welll as internationally. Before Thomas came along, the only player worth talking about was Shoeless Joe.....Even players don't want to come here. The result? 22,000 attendance in a historic, all-star year when the team was in first place and some renovations already done. JR got exactly what his financial approach deserves. (no profit) Until I see New USCF and the attendant fanbase and media boom, I remain sceptical to say the least.

Players don't want to come here because of the people running the team. 20 plus years of front office lies, backstabbing and other disloyalites make this place a must not for the deserning player with a no-trade clause. That money should've gone to the Sox since 2001. It was a real window and it will be closed when the league re-aligns in a few years. The Critic
Until more people think like you, I'm afraid you will be in the minority. The masses do not seem to feel the way you do. I don't mind being in the minority - the masses are asses. Wrigley Field has aged past its usefulness, and is cramped and uncomfortable. USCF is the runaway winner for WATCHING BASEBALL, which is what a ballpark is supposed to be all about.

BridgeportHeather
Thank you guys for your informative posts regarding what's going on at Comiskey right now. I shall take a drive by when I get home for Thanksgiving week in about a week and a half. From what you guys have stated, it sounds like it's going to turn out for the best of this baseball club. And I agree on EVERYTHING Critic has said in this thread!!!

That was beautiful. True and touching. And so on the money it's not funny. Oops - I said "money." My bad. We are banned from talking about that since the team is destitute, poor, and barely hanging on. Pfffffttt.
