He has to throw a regular fastball to get guys off of his change up.  If guys know it is going to be change, they just don't swing and let it fall out of the zone.

Like Hendricks this year.  The mediocre fastball with Thorpe was always the concern as the headliner for Cease.

Why dude is getting a MLB paycheck that he never would have gotten with another team.

A lot like the Scott Carroll situation, just trying to qualify for his pension after playing QB for Purdue.

What a bad loss. Sox get thumped and lose another series. Is Thorpe destined to stink cause he has no heat? Why was he so high on our prospect list with a lousy fastball? Got to bring the heat then throw it in the dirt for the K in this HR or nothing era. Who is this Kuhl guy?

Sox get destroyed today as they flirt with their 20th win.

Who fucking cares? They have been outscored by 155 runs.

Who cares that they've been outscored by 155 runs?

There are certainly a bunch of dudes who love to post the chances of breaking all-time loss records, and when one comes off the board, it's "who fucking cares"? LOL.

There's a string on this site to track the shutouts. Did you ask that question there?

I think that MLB hitters are so used to velocity now that that's no longer the case. Everyone throws hard, when 90 mph comes up there it looks like a beach ball.

Good control and change of speed make lower velocity more viable. I worry more about how teams adjust to his change up with more tape to scout, because his FB isn't going to cut it w/o quality off speed offerings.

A typical fan response to Thorpe, after his debut he was going to be brilliant, after a rough second start he will be a failure! He is a young pitcher who has gone from AA to MLB level, so he is bound to have some rough starts, so long as he learns and develops that is what this season is about for him.

I was not thrilled to see the jump from AA to MLB with a guy who is going to vitally depend on pinpoint control, but it is what it is now that he is here. (well at least until Getz sends him out)  When you have raw kids, you can't be surprised by how varied their bodies of work are from outing to outing.

It is hilarious that this is played some sort of trump card.  Ooooooh you really got everyone there.  Oh wait, we are still on pace for the most losses in MLB history in the modern era.  Nevermind.
