The Mighty Mite
The Say Hey Kid is gone, one of the greatest and most exciting baseball players ever. I was lucky enough to see him play a few times at Wrigley in the late 1950s, may he rest in peace. Highland
Had the greatest overall talent. Could do everything and did it great. No one has matched him since.
pcq
I never liked or followed the National League but Willie was the greatest. Started his career with the Birmingham Black Barons.
oldsox
Too bad he missed those two years in the service. 1952-53, I believe. As a young fan back then, I thought it was silly to force these guys into the service in non-wartime years. Ted Williams, too, but his situation was a bit different. The Mighty Mite
Didn’t realize this but just read that since Willie Mays died the oldest living member of the Hall of Fame is White Sox great Luis Aparicio at 90 years old.

CaliSoxFanViaSWside
Still have his autograph when I saw a silver BMW with a license plate that said SAY HEY 2 I think on the 5 Freeway as I was headed home in the Santa Clarita Valley. A long drive to Frisco if that's where he was headed. But I figure it was a good chance of being him with that plate.Luckly he stopped for gas at my exit and asked him for his autograph at the gas station. He signed it Best Wishes, Willie Mays. RIP Willie Mays.
