aboz56
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?p...top50freeagents Has us getting Fernando Vina and that's all of the top 50 free agents. Also has Sir Sidney going back to Baltimore and Robbie to the Cardinals.
BrandoFan
Getting Vina to hit against righties in case Willie Harris still stinks? For about a mill or two OK. The guy can still play good 2B and has solid speed. Pennant race experience.
Steaming Willy Harris
Reading that makes me sick, the only player predicted going to the Sox is Fernando Vina who they rank around 35th meanwhile the Cubs Yankees and Dodgers are predicted to pick up a major part of the top 20 free agents. This s*** pisses me off. Its gonna be a real bad day for me the day the Cubs get Pudge and we get to keep Jose Valentin and maybe even sign Fernando Vina. :fyou
WHarris1
Our team will be awesome if we bring in Vina and thats it out of the top 50 FA's! As long as we get guys in the top 100-150.

It gives the Sox the exact type of player that could start if needed and could be a great mentor and willing to come off the bench at times to help Willie, who I believe will make it. The_Godfather
One thing I will say about Vina is he isnt affaird of getting hit by a pitch. I dont know about you guys but there were many times last year when I was watching the games and one of our guys nearly got hit and instead moved out of the way then they eventually made an out. I would be sitting there thinking they should have taken the ball off their ass and taken first Vina will do that thats for sure. As for his production it wouldnt be any worse then what we got last year at @B maybe even better. Play Willie in center and Vina At second would be nice if willie could find the stroke he has in the monors at the major league level and with his speed we could have many situations where vina would simply bunt him over to either second or thrid base and have a RISP with less then 2 outs. Having him batting second would go along with the game plan that ozzie wants to bring to the Sox Small Ball and team players which Vina IS. Chisoxfn
They need Graffanino back to hit against lefties, whether it's Vina or Alomar or Willie or Miles. Graffy will be back. He's JR's favorite player and still a very valuable guy off the bench. I also think Ventura will be back. I'd look for the Sox to put some solid vets on the bench (Also Cheap) and for them to help Ozzie and the coaches with some of the younger players. My gut feeling is that Harris/Reed/Rowand will be in center and Harris/Vina at 2nd as the Sox groom Harris for the leadoff spot and Reed in the 2 hole. If the Sox get the pitching they can still be very sucessful with this type of combo.
SuperSteve
Ventura would be great to mentor Crede. He could also play some 1B. I say forget Vina. Give Willie the fulltime shot. If he faulters, go out and get somebody. I do not see Vina as the answer (unless he is cheap), and I would just rather see us not get tied down to him for a few years. It will be our luck we will get him for a few year contract, and then we will be trying to offload him next offseason. Unless the White Sox front office thinks Vina is the answer, which I am willing to bet they don't, I would let Willie get some expierence. I would love to go and get Philips from the Tribe. Anyone think he would have any shot at being available. I think he could be our 2B of the future if we got him.
BurlyMan56
No way Brandon Phillips is available...He is going to get alot of at-bats in AAA next year and is big part of the Tribe's future. He'll be up there once he gets 300-350 at-bats.

And IF Brandon Phillips IS available, that should set off all kinds of alarms and bells that there is something wrong with this guy, probably D'Angelo Jimenez style. aboz56
Graffy will be back. He's JR's favorite player and still a very valuable guy off the bench. While this may be true, don't be so sure that he is returning. This is his last chance to get a good payday and a chance to play everyday somewhere else and if the opportunity is offered, I say he takes it. Call me crazy, but I don't think he'll be back on the Sox next season. And in terms of Ventura, that's not gonna happen IMO either. Only time will tell... Cali
If the Sox did get Vina, it would be worth it alone just to hear the SnR guys say Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! DBAHO
Vina is possibly an option if Robbie ain't comin back. Depends how much money he wants though, no more than $2 million. Problem is he doesn't hav a high .OBP for a leadoff hitter but he's great in the field like Robbie. I think Ozzie's biggest coaching mentor role this year will be to make Big Willie Style into his own version of Juan Pierre.

You forgot the Y's. As in: VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! But I don't want him - nagging hammy problems and declining production scare me, as does the fact that BOTH middle infielders would have scary porn-star mustaches! SoxFan1
I would like Vina. He is noyt as good as a Castillo but still as effective. He will take one (or 30) for the team, he will lay down bunts, he will play good defense, and he will bring us some veteran leadership. I still think that we may go after Ponson, Rodriguez (the Cuban Pither), and Batista.

YASNY
I can hear the play by play call now .... Grounder to short, Valentin over to Vina on to Ventura at first. Rack 'em up. A lot of possible V's in the Sox infield next year.

That would be four guys on the team from the '93 Championship team

However, I do think Robin could be a valuable asset to the Sox.
Capn12
Robin would be a valuable guy IF we could find a way to move Konerko. Face it, someone HAS to go. As for 2B and CF, I still don't see how you can't let AaRow get his shots to be the everyday CFer, and let second got to Willie/Miles/Robbie or whoever you want to give the shot to in ST. Pastime
Yas, Not so fast. Rowand is only 2-20 with two solo HR's in the fall league, so he's a bust. A failure. A loser. 20 at-bats mean everything.
