Youth.

For those who got cocky about Thorpe, there's always the next day.

Look at the numbers Glavine Smoltz and Avery put up in their first couple of seasons for the Braves.

There’s going to be some growing pains no doubt but this is a good time for these young starting pitchers to get their feet wet. Better now than finding yourself in a situation like the Orioles who otherwise have a World Series team but their rotation is crumbling with each passing day. 22 runs allowed over the last 16+ innings to the Astros, which comes on the heels of losing their #2 starter for the year ouch

Yeah, okay.  I’d trade teams and farm systems with the Orioles all day long and so would anyone with a brain cell, even with the injuries.

And despite all that they’re going to end up like the early 2020s Sox if they don’t get their mess of a starting rotation figured out. They’re a Burnes injury away from not even making the playoffs despite their ungodly wealth of hitters. Still need pitching..

They have young players that have panned out and the team is currently competing for the division.  Their GM will no doubt make another shrewd move for a starter or two.

Meanwhile, there is no guarantee that everything will go right for the Sox, that the majority of their prospects will pan out, and that they will ever compete for anything (see last rebuild).  The Orioles are actually doing it NOW.

Just checked in on the score and yikes.

Note to self....Thorpe had a very rough 2nd start  and bounced back nicely yesterday, do not panic about Cannon.

Much like the 2020/2021 Sox the Orioles have yet to win anything. Again, if they don’t get their rotation figured out and Elias is too stingy to trade a few of his mid 20 year hitting prospects wasting away in AAA for significant MLB arms, they aren’t going anywhere.

Maybe he did and that was the best he had.

It’s okay to admit you were wrong and that he’s bad now.  Yes, he used to be good but the dude is a couple months away from turning 38 years old.  Dude is burnt toast for cripes’ sakes.

All winning streaks have to end sometime. The Sox had a nice 1-0 run. I hope mlb has enough baseballs available for the Dodger series.

He got Burnes for spare parts when many Sox fans were thinking that the great Getz would rob him of three top 100 prospects for Cease.  There’s no reason to doubt Elias at this point.

How do what fans think the team should have got for a player have anything to do with the actual market and what was going on? You give him credit for a fanbase having a heightened opinion of a guy?

And acquiring Burnes for this season and this season only will mean absolutely nothing if they miss the playoffs or get knocked out in the first round again. How’s that rotation looking next year without Burnes and Bradish? Elias better get ready to unload 4 of his top 5 prospects in order to fill out a competent starting rotation. Unless they start spending like a top 5-10 team, windows close more quickly than one might think (we as Sox fans know this better than anyone).

Even with their injuries, I’d trade places with them all day long.  And as we are discussing this, our team is down by 9 runs and looking at loss #58.

They have venture capital on their side now.

Maybe a couple of Basallo Mayo Kjerstad or Cowser, Beavers....but no way it will be 4-5 of those.

And they still have Holliday. Henderson Rutschman, etc.  That's a super strong foundation.

Without Robert Fedde and Crochet, Sox are one of the five worst teams in baseball history.

Sox will also have to shut down Crochet late if not traded....or go to strictly 3-4 IP and 50-70 total pitch counts.

Cycles my man. The Sox are where the Orioles were at in 2018. Things will look a lot different for both clubs in another 5 years too.

I have zero confidence in Getz doing what Elias did.

Literally, look at their projected rotation next season without Burnes and Bradish.

Rodriguez, Suarez, Povich, Kremer, Irvin. It’s an absolute mess for a team with WS aspirations. At a minimum, they need a #1 and a #3. That won’t come cheap whether it’s via trade or free agency
