Path to .500 in 2025

Your daddy must love you.

We have fantasy league guys who would trade Crochet for a prospect package on the eve of Game 7. We have gamblers who don't care about winning. We have rebuild guys, non-boomers who forget that the Sox are not capable of rebuilds. Nicky Lopez and Corey Julks are not my idea of a rebuild. All of the scrappy guys we got end up with .650 OPS. Right now logic would dictate signing a couple of position players to go with a decent pitching core moving forward. Since we don't have money for that we complain about boomers who want to win and the owner who needs to retire on an ice floe.  That leaves us Getz and Grifol to take us to the promised land. Let's move on from Yo and Eloy as well. This team has no spirit as Hawk might say. Bunch of dead people. The fans are perversely bitter.

Yes, but you cant’t assign human characteristics to a vague term like team payoll…as who would empathize or sympathize with JR, a faceless miser to most?

You’re theoretically meaning to say equal to…balancing out…cash flow neutral.

You guys act like my opinions on this stuff are so wrong. I was talking to a baseball expert today about the Sox wanting to dump Crochet and Robert and he said "why would they get rid of their only two players?" Not everybody thinks the way you guys do. Sox are lucky to have any paying fans willing to put up with the way they tank/rebuild. What's wrong with Robert staying 2-3 years and making some memories on the south side? Who cares his contract will run out someday? The Spurs for instance have Victor. Why not trade him if u are the Spurs I can hear you guys saying? Get rid of him. With him they won 20 games.

Sad you guys are accepting horrific baseball because it MAY lead to good baseball someday. Losing is for losers is what I say. You got allegedly two of the best players in the league; you keep them and try to win a few games.

You finally figured out the flawed psychology of baseball.

It is an unpredictable sport.  Trading to today for tomorrow doesn't work for the habitually losing franchises.  If you put s%*# on the field people don't go and people don't watch.  TV revenue is important.   Jerry has turned this organization into the A's the suckwell.

Prospects are not immune to TJ surgery or becoming a Jake Burger.

Yet you can divorce the idea from more involved fans to realize it's rare the return was worth the risk.  Farm system rankings are overrated as with prospect rankings, some fans are already declaring Montgomery a bust.

The worst thing about baseball is it has more than enough bad ownership.  Every s%*# team that has a good player the word trade pops up.  Even Ozzie joked about that after the Cannon performance.  Baseball doesn't really allow for cheap ownership.  If one wants to a buy a MLB franchise they better investigate the large amount of overhead and have an ego for winning.

The business of baseball is not very fan friendly.  In a few years I would not be surprised if the WNBA ratings exceed MLB.

That's a bold statement, just can't ever see that happening.

We're talking about .500. ... I saw some video yesterday from an all star game with Konerko. There were 7 Sox involved in the game during introductions. Seven. It was Konerko and Dye and AJP, Buehrle, Jenks, Contreras. Those were the days. The Chicago White Sox who soon will have no good players on the 40 man after the trades had 7 all stars!! And they didn't have to ever tank to get to that point.

It's almost like the Sox are some Class A team stuck in the bigs. Very sad and very weird. Jerry should be ashamed that everything about his organization is minor league.

As a Sox fan I never noticed too much the hazards of cheap owners (Jerry) or owners with no money (Veeck). That's because the Sox always seemed to have at least a few good players. Now after the current purge is complete we'll have no good players on the 40 man. It's why I've said many times on here Jerry should be fined heavily by the commissioner for putting this c--p on the field. It's disgusting. The few fans that go to the games (that Twins DH was a joke for attendance if u look at the highlights) are going for the same reason you'd go to a minor league game: just to do something on a summer nite. Sickening.

Also a verb isn’t an adjective

I'm sure Clark games are already demolishing every Sox game.

We need a 2024 Misc. Sox Thread for random stuff, like this amazing video

Good video but very depressing. Points out pretty much there's no hope.

July 11, 2006 - Coming off a season where the White Sox won their first World Series championship in 88 years, seven players and manager Ozzie Guillen made the trip to Pittsburgh for the All-Star Game.

The seven players were tied for the second most in team history equaling the number of Sox representatives in 1960.

The seven players were; Mark Buehrle (P), Jose Contreras (P), Jermaine Dye (OF), Bobby Jenks (P), Paul Konerko (1B), Jim Thome (INF/PH) and A.J. Pierzynski (C). None of the Sox players though were in the starting lineup. The A.L. won the game in dramatic fashion 3-2.

Not as long as JR is the owner unless they get real lucky.

The luck thing is not gonna happen. We are worse than the Orioles during that stretch where they stunk every year; worse than the Pirates during that stretch when they stunk every year. Has anybody picked up Abreu or TA yet? Would at least be interesting. Sign em for the minimum.

Why?

Both are done, D.O.A. basically as productive players. Sox need to play the kids not more retreads.

What does it matter? Trade DeBong for peanuts (everybody's much-desired younger player) and let TA play SS on a minimum deal. Or DFA Lopez and let him play 2B. We got nobody we're blocking there. Trade Vaughn and Sheets for peanuts and let Abreu play there for grins. Sox seem intent on not playing Colas, etc.

Speaking of Vaughn, why was he the third overall pick in draft? Did people think he'd develop a nice lift and pull stroke? He seems like kind of a bust to me, although he still is only 26.

do people really think the Sox are gonna start the clock on any of their top 10 prospects next year, or even this year (on 7/31).  obviously Thorpe is here, but Colson, Baldwin, Schultz? Schultz has been on a 4IP limit all year

they're gonna be bad next year, whether it'll be worse or better than 2024 I don't think matters much. it'll be comparable that's for sure

It was the year after they won a World Series lmao.  They sold off Carlos Lee after 04 because they refused to pay him, refused to resign Magglio and let him go to the tigers, and had to get Dye coming off a broken leg and AJ coming off of a year when he was vilified in San Francisco.  the pen was a bunch of castoffs.  This was the same playbook it just was lightning in a bottle.
