This is the same organization that thought Manny Machado would prefer to play one season with his cousin and BFF over 50 million guaranteed dollars. They are not a serious organization at all. There is definte smoke around attaching Beninentdi to a trade for Crochet.

Forgot that one. Can't get any dumber or mor naive.

If we are this strapped for cash I’d point out Hahn could have easily gotten out of Nicky Lopez after the trade and saved $4.3 million.

The Bummer trade was a disaster.  Got back a bunch of crap and burned millions.

Meanwhile, if the Braves weren’t competing, they could trade Bummer for a decent prospect haul.  Another fail for Getz.

That's a little inaccurate. Machado had full intentions of going to the White Sox. He thought it would be a done deal, especially with them signing on the Friends and Family plan. With that stated, they played games with the money which you don't do with a HoF in the prime of their career.

Manny Machado is not a HOF. But yes, the way we negotiated that contract was hilariously inept.

Who else was willing to pay Nicky Lopez $4.3 million?

Sox have been selling longer than any team but have gotten nothing done.

This means one or two things:

1. Getz has no idea about market value (similar to hahn) and has overplayed his hand badly.

2. The Sox have no idea what to do.

Those are certainly possibilities. But one of the obvious possibilities is we still see a whole bunch of moves.

Via Rosenthal.

Quote

The White Sox are now positioned to move Garrett Crochet after agreeing to send Erick Fedde to the Cardinals in a three-team deal involving the Dodgers. Crochet was on the “back burner” while the White Sox worked on the larger trade, according to a source briefed on their discussions.

That’s not to say Crochet will be dealt. Because he figures to be unavailable for the postseason, some in the industry believe his trade value this winter will be just as high, given his two additional years of club control.

Can't wait for this trade after the Fedde fleecing.

They really need to ace that trade after bombing on Fedde.

Instead they'll get scrubs and Beni salary relief.

at this poitn - maybe that is the best thing. Zero out payroll - get new owner in here - clean absolute house top to bottom.

Except there’s only one situation where there’s a new owner, and payroll has nothing to do with it

Why not both?

Let's pretend Crochet is serious about an extension that would make sense for both the club and the player.

The Sox COULD offer an extension along with Garrett controlling precisely how much more he wants to throw this year and next which could theoretically be way less usage than any contending team would push for.

Sox are about the only team that could justify paying him and babying him for another year (other suitors would presumably be trying to win in 2025).

Maybe there is significant excess value to both parties in that situation.

I said it a few days ago, a somewhat competent team being aware of their situation would try and front load a contract for Crochet, giving him his money now and having the last 2 years of his 5 year contract backloaded so they would have resources available to compete in 2027-2028. But we know that won't happen.

Because apparently the Sox are broke.
