It's kinda an odd group of college hitters.  You have a bunch of fairly polished hitters who have a chance to move quickly but are likely to be corners in Arquette, Curley, Irish, Taylor, Compton and Ford. You also have a group who are locks to stay at premium positions but have questions if they're gonna hit like Cannarella, Houston and Aloy.  Then there's LaViolette who has questions about both.  Right now I would say take one of the premium position guys and hope your new development dept can get him to be a league avg hitter.

Might as well just play Braden Montgomery in CF and find a LEGIT college SS with carrying tools.

BA has updated 2025 draft rankings. Will post through the top 20.

The Florida State lefthander moves up from No. 3 to the top spot on the back of a strong early-season performance and well-rounded, quick-moving starter profile. The perception of the industry seems to be that the 2025 class lacks a slam dunk 1-1 profile, leaving Arnold as the best of a reasonably-crowded group of players at the top.

Former No. 1 ranked outfielder Jace LaViolette slides from the top spot in the class to No. 9, while a trio of college shortstops have jumped up from middle-of-the-first-round range to become top 10 prospects: Oregon State’s Aiva Arquette, Wake Forest’s Marek Houston and Tennessee’s Dean Curley.

The rest of the top 10 is heavy on pitchers and high school players and includes Oklahoma shortstop Ethan Holliday, UC Santa Barbara righthander Tyler Bremner, California prep teammates Seth Hernandez and Billy Carlson and Oregon lefthander Kruz Schoolcraft.

Biggest Risers/Fallers. Will share some of the blurbs but not all.

  Quote

Liam Doyle, LHP, Tennessee
Movement: +36
Current: 16
Last: 52

Patrick Forbes, RHP, Louisville
Movement: +160
Current: 18
Last: 178

Steele Hall, SS, Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) HS

Movement: +88
Current: 23
Last: 111
Hall was criminally low on our previous ranking based on the way scouts are talking about him this spring. He’s earning Kellon Lindsey comparisons in terms of his status on draft boards. Hall has used impressive strength gains over the offseason to improve his offensive upside and overall profile and always boasted exciting defensive and speed tools.

Gavin Kilen, 2B, Tennessee
Movement: +30
Current: 28
Last: 58
Kilen is doing his best Christian Moore impression. While Moore added more contact in his draft year as Tennessee’s second baseman and steadily moved up boards throughout the spring, Kilen has added more power to an offensive profile that was built around already-strong contact skills. He’s already surpassed his 2024 total of nine home runs with 10 in his first 21 games, and he hasn’t sacrificed any contact to do it.

Riley Quick, RHP, Alabama
Movement: +27
Current: 29
Last: 56

First-Round Fallers
Jace LaViolette, OF, Texas A&M
Movement: -8
Current: 9
Last: 1
We’ve covered Jace LaViolette’s slide ad nauseam at this point, though going from No. 1 to No. 9 does make him one of the most prominent first-round fallers in this update. A slow start and questions about both his swing and athleticism have caused his drop. It’s worth noting he has lowered his strikeout rate, which is a positive sign, but he’s been passed over by high-performing college shortstops. A strong resurgence in conference play could put him back in play at the top of the board.

Cam Cannarella, OF, Clemson
Movement: -14
Current: 20
Last: 6
Cannarella’s numbers on the surface are pretty similar to his career norms, but he didn’t look like the sort of potential plus hitter scouts were expecting to see in the first few weeks of the season. His in-zone miss rates are up a bit and, because he’s a hit-over-power offensive profile, that’s a real concern. His defensive ability, speed and no-doubt up-the-middle profile offer some floor, but at the moment, he doesn’t look like the top 10 pick we had him as to start the year.

Ike Irish, C, Auburn
Movement: -12
Current: 24
Last: 12

Brady Ebel, SS, Corona (Calif.) HS
Movement: -9
Current: 26
Last: 17
