I'm kinda just hoping Houston or Arquette somehow last until 10? I dunno. Not sure how I feel about Curley. Would love @Harold's Leg Lift to weigh in on the college middle infield group.

It's pretty disappointing.  Houston is the only one left standing for me and I don't think he'll be there at 1-10.

Aloy has a good shot at sticking at SS but he has too much swing and miss and lacks feel to hit.

Arquette is not a SS and after a hot start he's really fallen off and has been avg at best.

Curley is not a SS either and has a jacked up swing.  There are concerns if he will consistently hit an inside fastball.

Cannarella's shoulder injury seems a little more serious than anyone thought.  He's still playing an outstanding CF but he's not impacting the baseball.

The good news is the HS guys are showing well.  I don't think Holliday or Carlson will be there but Willits, Gamble, Neyens and Fien and maybe a couple more should all be in the mix.

One thing I did hear is they like RJ Austin.  I'm not sure if they have him in the mix at 1-10.  2-44 seems more likely.

Thanks for this.

Think there's any interest in Steele Hall? He looks fun.

For Austin, when I see comments like he makes too much contact, which results in a lot of ground balls and a lack of pull side power….it definitely sets off MDS.   His power numbers are really bad.

He's really nothing like Madrigal.  He has a strong, twitchy, athletic body. He is a legit plus runner and it looks like he'll be able to play an above avg CF.  He may end up with 8-10 home run power but that's still a pretty good player especially if they can get him in the 2nd round or maybe they underslot him at 1-10 and push a guy (Bauer?) down.  Again I don't know where they think he fits.

Carlson being there for the Sox in the BA Staff Draft was a dream scenario. I doubt it happens, but there are a lot of HS ss in this class that I really like. Carlson could go top 3, but this year is so fluid, you can't rule him out at 1-10.

I just wonder how much of this evaluating/drafting, particularly on the position player side, is as much luck as skill.  Last year, the consensus was "worst upper end draft class in a decade."  Well Cam Smith, drafted #14,  is already in the majors and playing well.  And I read somewhere that they think Nick Kurtz, drafted #4 and paid substantially below slot, now looks like the next Jim Thome.   Kristian Campbell looks like a great young middle-infielder, but he was the 27th SS drafted in 2023, and the 3rd by the RedSox.

10.)  White Sox — Liam Doyle, LHP, Tennessee
Doyle showed a few cracks in the armor against Florida, Alabama and South Carolina to start his SEC slate, but he then slammed the door against Texas A&M (6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K) and Ole Miss (8.1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 14 K) in his last two turns. Through nine starts and 51 innings, Doyle has a 2.47 ERA with a 48.2% strikeout rate and 8.1% walk rate. He leads Division I pitchers with 85 strikeouts, and his 40.1 K-BB% is the only mark in the country north of 40%. His fastball is still running an incredible 44% miss rate and, despite some questions, his changeup and slider both have miss rates north of 40%, as well.

I know you can never have enough pitching, and the Sox are really good at developing lefties, but I am so worried about the offensive future of this organization. Maybe drafting for need isn't the way to go, but another starting pitcher at 1-10 if there are any near equivalent offensive prospects there would be a mistake.
