Being a Sox fan is so bittersweet.  On one hand, I truly believe in Bannister and feel like we could have a quality, home-grown rotation within two years behind Schultz, Smith, Thorpe, Cannon, and one of many other options.  And while our bullpen is mostly garbage at the moment, I do think we have enough pitching depth in the minors to build a decent pen pretty quickly.  While injuries could derail it all, there are legit reasons to be optimistic on this side of the ball.

At the same time, I have little confidence in Getz, Barfield, & Watson to build an entire offense from basically scratch.  Montgomery’s struggles against velocity are concerning and if he’s just a guy and not a star that creates a big roadblock for us.  And just not a ton after him that you can feel super confident in at the moment other than Quero and to a lesser extent Baldwin.  With our latest draft unlikely to provide help anytime soon, it really comes down to trades and free agency.  If Getz can kill this trade deadline then the path to competitiveness suddenly becomes much easier, but it’s very hard to trust the evaluators who recommended giving up actual talent for guys like Fletcher & DeLoach.

We should know a lot more nine days from now.

Good post, once they trade Crochet and Robert, there is a huge lack of above average talent.  Montgomery, even if he improves, was always going to be more of a solid pro than superstar.  Another thing to keep in mind is the cupboard is completely empty after this deadline in terms of assets to trade.

Does Thrope still have rookie eligibility for next year? I would love to see him win the award

Not sure, I know he loses his Prospect ranking after today IIRC

Sox pitchers throw the shittiest pitches

That said Eloy would have rolled over on that and hit into a double play

Yup, if Getz botches these last few assets it will push the timeline back a couple years.  Got to pray he hits an absolute HR over these next nine days and/or in the offseason.

Best part of bitching about the Sox and seeing how absolutely dogshit they are is when the crappy players play like ass and then we get upset about their trade value. Who the f*** cares if they trade Brebbia or Kopech? Both guys are horrific and won't net the Sox anything of importance. Probably some dickhead who struggles through the minors, maybe OPS's .650 if they ever make the bigs, and one day is forgotten about entirely

And when they come to the majors, they show you why they were available to begin with

Sure seems like outside of Thorpe, our pitchers throw way too many fastballs to Witt

It would have been interesting to see what Witt could do with Peralta's 89MPH heater; he may have just stook there in shock.

It's hard to see another win on this schedule until we get the Angels in mid September; maybe the Giants - we usually play well in San Fran.

Could break the record for longest losing streak.  7 and counting....

What a pathetic series. Talk about guys going through the motions.

Part of the reason to fire Grifol and give Sizemore the reigns.  No manager can overcome this lack of talent, but a different voice might be able to get the best out of it.  There is literally downside of firing Grifol and putting an existing coach in charge other Jerry having to a guy for doing nothing which we all know he hates.

Three hits for the Sox ... LOL.

Game took 2:05 ... LOL

Royals sweep lifeless Sox. Absolutely no pride in losing season series what, 9 to 1? For all the tradeniks, at least Pham had two good games. Rumor Royals want him. He's actually hit well enuf to show he's a major leaguer and could help a contender at least as a pinch hitter or twice a week guy. Expect him to get dealt soon for cash considerations and maybe one player from A ball.

19 times.

That's how many times the Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later...and lost the game.

19

They go winless for the season in Kansas City.

Seven straight losses. I'll have to look to see if the Sox have ever had multiple double-digit losing streaks in a single season.

They already did that earlier this season at 14 setting the franchise record if I recall correctly.
