Harry Chappas
I agree...cause Pavano would be a better optoin at a more affordable price. I'd rather just see the Sox save like 12 mill by getting Soriano who will be around for quite a bit longer. And of course if they find a way to get Johnson too, more power to it. Don't the fish have an option/arbitration on Pavano? I do nto beleive is free to the open market as of yet. If so, I'd take him in a heartbeat. Wong & Owens
Give me Pavano or Pat Hentgen, trade Konerko for Perez, Re-sign Robbie Alomar, trade Lee to Florida for Pierre and a prospect, trade Koch to NYM for Scott Strickland + another guy, and I'd be a happy dude. Chisoxfn
I thought I saw Pavano was a free agent. He's been around so long (From his days with the Expos) that I just can't see how he wouldn't be a flat out free agent. Maybe I'm wrong, but I swear he was a free agent although the Marlins at one point were rumored to be close to a deal with him but I think that fell apart. BrandoFan
As someone mentioned before, STAY AWAY from overrated, to-be-injured Ponson. Soriano and Weaver for Maggs? Yankees are gonna have much more marketable Sheffiled or Guerrero for the same price next year AND will retain both Weaver and Soriano. Case closed. Vina for 1-2 mill? What are the options? Robbie? Don't say Castillo because he will cost 3-4 times what Vina will and might not duplicate his 2003 production. Pavano and Alvarez for VERY cheap make sense. I don't trust Kenny to get them as far as I can throw him, though. This 55-60 mill ceiling is making me sick and it's only November.
The_Godfather
If we have to take on Weaver and his bad contract and s***y attitude in order to get Soriano I say you have to do that trade. Weaver wasn't all that bad in Det. before moving over to the big stage " Yankee Stadium". Potential Lineup Willie Harris cf Roger Cedeno rf Alfonso Soriano 2b Frank Thomas dh/1b Carlos Lee lf/dh Joe Crede 3b Rowand/Reed/Borchard lf/dh Jose Valentine ss Miguel Olivo/Sandy Alomar c Potential Pitching Staff Starting 5 Mark Buehrle lp Esteban Loaiza rp Jon Garland Rp Odalis Perez lp Jeff Weaver rp Tom Gordon cp Damaso Marte su I would have to say that would be a nice looking team we would have plenty of speed at the top and a middle of the order 3-7 to drive in the runs looks good on paper. As for our pitching MB and E-Lo should be fine we would need Garland, Perez, and Weaver to live up to their potential. With this team i think we could do very well next season just my 2 cents on it
Chisoxfn
Somewhere Konerko or Lee have to appear in there. I'd take on Weaver if it was a must, but I don't see it as a must, imo.
Wong & Owens
Yeahhhhh, I'm going to have to go and, DISAGREE with you there... Potential Lineup Willie Harris cf Roger Cedeno rf Alfonso Soriano 2b--3 GUYS AT THE TOP OF YOUR LINEUP THAT WON'T TAKE A WALK? WITH FRANK "I LIKE WALKS" BEHIND THEM, FRANK MIGHT WALK 300 TIMES, AND END THE YEAR WITH 25 RBI'S--ALL SOLO HR'S Frank Thomas dh/1b Carlos Lee lf/dh Joe Crede 3b Rowand/Reed/Borchard lf/dh Jose Valentine ss Miguel Olivo/Sandy Alomar c NOT ALOT OF PRODUCTION HERE, AND YOU HAVE 6 REGULARS THAT EXHIBIT POOR PITCH SELECTION, AND AT LEAST 4 THAT CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, HIT A CURVEBALL. Cerbaho-WG
Is Danny Evans still the Dodgers GM, because if he is KW is picking on the right guy. Evans is a complete dolt. IMO, it's more likely that Lee will be shipped than Konerko, only because we'd have to give something to LA with Konerko. No one in their right mind would trade a left hander with some upside for Paul Konerko, but this is Dan Evans.

I know...my dad was all pissed seeing that Konerko could be a Dodger (His favorite team) and he said there is no way it will happen. And then I said, you got Evans...anything is possible Evans is most likely ousted once the ownership gets settled, but with things in such fluxuation Fox is likely gonna have to just give him control to make a few moves while keeping the team in a solid position to still sell. A Lame Duck ownership won't fly in LA and could have a very negative effect on their attendance. If Lee goes, then I think the Sox must get something else of value in return, but if its Konerko then pay some of his contract, give them Ginter or whatever....cause damn would it be a sweet deal
The_Godfather
I'm guessig your referring to Willie harris when you said gys who cant hit a curveball. Well in all fairness to him he never really has gotten a chance to play everyday and if he were to start droping down some bunts with his speed could pull it off at the top of the order. Cedeno i guess would be the free swinger right? if he can get back number he put up 99-01( link Below ) i would be happy with him in the 2 hole.http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=5428. As far as Soriano please he has been one hell of a player since he has come into the league and will only put up better numbers in the 3 hole. Iwould like to see the top of the order being able to run at will and these three guys can definetly run plus we would be saving nearly nearly 20 million dollars off our payroll so yes I think I would be game for this lineup so we can get our pitching staff taken care of. Chisoxfn
What about Boarchard and Konerko, for Perez and Thurston?? I'd do it. I don't know if everyone would, but If it kept Lee around, then I'd happily oblige, plus I think Thurston could still make it, although he's no sure thing, but neither is Borchard. If Sox deal Borchard, then they shouldn't pick up a dime of Konerko's contract.

As far as Soriano please he has been one hell of a player since he has come into the league and will only put up better numbers in the 3 hole --TRUE, BUT THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF SPECULATION THAT SORIANO'S POOR 2ND HALF LAST YEAR WAS DUE TO THE LEAGUE CATCHING UP TO HIS FREE-SWINGIN' WAYS. kramer99
my guess is that if the sox trade lee for Perez instead of Konerko, there would be another player(s) involved.... either an upper tier prospect (top 10) from LA or one of their bullpen pitchers, so i would look like To sox: Perez and prospect or bullpen pitcher To LA: C. Lee or, of coarse, there is a possiblity of more players (ordonez, valentin, prospects) involved to make it a huge trade...and possibly other teams involved (Mets,Cardinals,Angels???) kane0730
I have no interest in Ponson (for the money). I would love them to sign Brian Anderson. He'd be a perfect #4, and another lefty to throw at the Twins.

Are you kidding. I think you should have put this stuff in green. The Marlins are not going to give up a very cheap, productive player. Pierre was the main thing they got out of the Hampton deal; not going to trade him for an expensive player when they have payroll constraints of their own. I don't want Strickland either, the Mets can keep everyone they have. I would take Reyes and Philips, that is it (wait for Royce Ring to prove something before everyone keeps calling him the second coming). I would do Floyd for Kong with money going to the team who takes on higher payroll. We do not have a ton of money to play with; we need to start looking at second trier FA's. It is a sad fact, but there isn't much we can do. I doubt the White Sox will make more than one huge trade this offseason, and it probably won't even be who we think. Capn12
If I can give LA Konerko and 2.5 mill for Odalis Perez, I am calling the press conference tomorrow. There is no way you can't make that move. A 26 year old left handed starting pitcher is something to build around. If we had Buehrle, Perez, Loaiza, Garland, and anyone else, I like it. Now, with that being said, no way in hell do I give them CLee right now, not after he finally produced like he is capable of producing. But I don't see why LA just signs an outfielder and keeps Perez. Most likely because they may need to move Perez's contract and in moving him, then they can take on and get a good power hitter. If I were them I'd go with the cheaper route and keep the pitching, but Perez doesn't get along with some of the players there because of how upset he got with the run support and heartless play of some guys...I think Green was one of them. Wasn't it perez who would of had a no hitter had Green not half assed a play last season (Arguably) and then perez went off saying thats why this team can't produce or something like that. He also doesn't get along with Tracy. perez seems to have a lot of fire though.

How much is Perez making for 2004? Likely 4.5 mill after arbitration. Green is a good defensive outfielder, it just doesn't make sense to move him to first, although your right he has said he'd move. I think the Dodgers would prefer keeping him in right. They wanted to move him to left cause Burnitz was whining. Burnitz sucks, especially if you stuck him in right...I think that shows what the Dodgers braintrust is working with...ie they are really idiots
