Just an unmitigated disaster.

Now only waiting for either Crochet, our 1-5 or Schultz to go down with UCLs and Robert to get injured seriously a third or is it fourth time?

They better make Moncada play down the stretch simply as a punishment. Might as well withhold his salary and trigger a grievance from the MLBPA.

Shocked we got what is probably a useful major leaguer for Eloy. From FanGraphs:

Quote

McGough was a minor league Rule 5 pick in the 2022 draft where the Pirates left a lot of pickable players unprotected. A starter in the Pirates org, McGough was recovering from Tommy John when the Orioles picked him, and he didn’t get underway in their org until late in the 2023 season. He hasn’t been a pure reliever for very long, but he dominated the Eastern League early this year and was promoted to Triple-A at the end of May. He should be a useful low-leverage lefty reliever soon. McGough’s whippy, high three-quarters arm stroke helps his fastball play a little better than its velocity, but his bread and butter is a low-80s slider with plus depth.

Yeah, they'd have to sign a decent amount of free agents to get to 100.

Yeah, it will be down from the $130 to $140 or whatever it was at this season.  But the Sox had so many players leaving that it was already go to start out well below $100 million.

In another trade related quirk, this was the continuation of a game that got suspended last month with 2 outs in the 9th with Norby at the plate. He's a Marlin now, so they had to have someone else finish his AB.

I've watched McGough a bit vs. the Knights, pretty decent stuff.

Gutting payroll would be the first thing I would do before selling the team. Just gut it down to the studs, no bad contracts or obligations for a new ownership group, fresh start.

That's what a sensible owner would do to make a sale more appealing.

But Jerry's probably just being a cheap asshole for cheap asshole's sake.

At this point, a $100M 2025 payroll would require significant additions in the offseason.

Seriously.  This.  They are probably losing money this year, but next year is WIDE the hell OPEN.  These teams have $100 million in revenue before a ticket is ever sold.

Eloy was the biggest disappointment. Injuries and everything else just ruined him. i thought he was going to be a huge offensive force for years.

I'd go with Kopech going from Nolan Ryan to a bum out of the pen who wouldn't listen to coaching, but Eloy is in the team picture.

Feels like they keep cutting payroll to make up for the previous years shortcomings.

And what's really upsetting is Getz trading Jimenez to a team in our division!!! Getz him outta here!!

Baltimore is in the AL Central?  That's news to me.

Seriously the guy was getting bought out in three short months.  This is a great deal for just the saving money part of it.

Baltimore is not in the Sox division.

Getting rid of him is the best move he's done as G.M.

Addition by subtraction.

So are you saying that their payroll is open next year and they should be able to afford to sign players or are you more in line with fathom’s line of thinking that they are broke and won’t pay anyone worth anything?

The White Sox have $50 million in payroll obligations for next year as it stands today.  They have $0 for 2026 and beyond.  They quite literally have a payroll of somewhere between $65 and $70 million for next season as it would stand today after cutting guys like Moncada and adding in minimum salaries everywhere.  They might be losing money this year, but they are not going to lose money next year as it stands right now.  That is an outright lie.
