White Sox Prospects

I know this has probably been posted already, but here's a list of the top 10 White Sox Prospects from FoxSports.com. These 2 playa's interested me, maybe Rex can tell us a bit more about then and whether or not they can make it to the big leagues. Oh yeah, we were ranked 24th in da league for prospects. Not good.

Article

Ryan Meaux, LHP, Age: 24

The White Sox received Meaux from the Giants in 2002 as part of the Kenny Lofton trade. He's a small-bodied lefty, but he's done nothing but put up the numbers in his brief career. He's worked as a high-inning reliever the past two seasons, reaching double-A in 2003. For his career, he's got a sporty 5.4 K/BB ratio, which is excellent. He strikes guys out at a strong clip and has a 2.46 ERA in three professional seasons. He was very strong at AA-Birmingham this past season and could be a future closer. ETA: Late 2004.

Robert Valido, SS, Age: 18

The Sox drafted Valido out of a Miami high school in the June draft. He projects as a solid defensive shortstop at the major league level with good gap power and speed on the bases. He had an excellent showing in the rookie-level Appalachian League this past season, but it's a limited sample. He's a long way from the majors, but so far so good. ETA: 2007.

Meaux was good for Birmingham. He doesn't project like many pitchers because of his size, but he has done nothing but get results. He was 24 in AA, however, so he is a bit old.

If he can make the jump to AAA next year and do well, then he has a chance. Part of his problem right now may be that the Sox have both Dave Sanders and Arnie Munoz as LH relievers in AAA.

Valido was regarded as an excellent defensive SS who had questions about his hitting. He hit well in his debut, giving hope that he may be the Sox next homegrown SS. Let's give him a couple more years before we go that far. The jump to full season ball is difficult for many young guys due to the length of the season and then the jump to AA is even bigger.

Agreed.

My biggest question about Meaux is his age. Why has he been so slow to move up the ladder?

As for Valido, he is obviously a prospect. But he's got to be at least three and probably four or five years away from being ready for the big leagues.

We'll need somebody before that.

It was supposed to be Gonzalez or Morse, but they seemed to stall last year.
