MLB considering 6IP minimum for starters

Recommended Posts

I will point out the exceptions which will allow you to remove a pitcher.

The objective is to prioritize starting pitching, not to leave a struggling starter in to reach the innings threshold while his ERA skyrockets or at the risk of injury. So the league's conversations have included carve-outs, instances when pitchers would not have to pitch the required six innings. Some instances when a starter would be allowed to leave early might include:

  • He throws 100 pitches

  • He gives up four or more earned runs

  • He gets injured (with a required injured list stint to avoid manipulation)

So after our starting pitcher gives up 3 in the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, and 5 in the 3rd, we have to subject ourselves to 3 more innings of punishment???

I see a lot of fake injuries taking place

EDIT: NVM I needed the above post 2 minutes earlier

I'd prefer 5 runs to 4.

Beyond that, seems fine.

Dodgers or rays would have no problem il'ing someone just for an edge though.

Its an interesting idea. Although I'd make it 5 innings with the other caveats. But for the rule to work for me, they would have to use the same format in the playoffs. The ghost runner is fine during the regular season and it's not every game. But you cant change the game entirely for the playoffs.

What??

Slide rules only. No more transistor-based devices allowed in front offices.

Physical paper spreadsheets only.

Want a computer? Fine. Enjoy the fucking vacuum tubes, mechanical relays, and ticker tape, you damn nerds.

I think it should be tied to other rules.

The first time you put in a reliever before 6IP in a game, you lose your replay vchallenge.

The second time you put in a reliever before 6IP in the same game, you lose your DH.

(barring injury)

Make JR in charge of every team.

Shohei Ohtani, Bryce Harper, et al would mutiny and create their own alternative league because JR wouldn't allow anyone to pay them lol.

"Early" pitching changes are allowed, but the other team gets to decide who pitches.

After your second early change, your first baseman becomes the pitcher, and he must be DHed for.
